Plastic bottles to store e-juice, vg and pg?

Hey guys,

I got a quick question regarding juice and liquid storage. I recently bought some 8 oz plastic dropper bottles from Harbor Freight and I was wondering if they would be ok for storing vg, pg, e-juice.

8 Oz. Storage Bottles With Twist Caps 3 Pk

I saw them, freaked out with a "yay", and just bought them, then noticed the tiny "Not for food use" wording on the bottom of the package. Since these are LDPE, would they still be ok to use?

Thanks!

Some e-liquids are known to break down plastics (highly citrus/cinnamon/acidic e-juices in particular). Concentrated flavorings wouldn't work well in those bottles (go with glass for flavorings). PG/VG/Nic, on their own, won't pose any problems.

E-juice itself might be fine, but I wouldn't leave it in there for extended periods of time. Glass is the way to go for extended storage.

    No you can't
Short term storage if not open should be OK but as a general rule use GLASS bottles amber/dark color to block the light out. Plastic will leach and release its chemical makeup over time.

Glass bottles are not that expensive and should be used when possible.

I would put those HF plastic bottle in the draw and not use them for vaping supplies.

Not this kind of plastic. These bottles would not break because of flavors.

I use mostly plastic, glass only for nicotine long term storage. All USP VG and PG comes in plastic. Plastic water bottles, etc... I feel safe.

    Sorry I don't believe everything I read.

I've bought milk in plastic bottles and wax containers dated the same date yet the plastic bottle milk went sour way before dated time have done the same with soda with results of the soda going flat sooner when in plastic bottles. I have found that once food products are open to air the process of degeneration is rapidly increased with plastic compared to glass. I'm not saying your get the same effect with vapor supplies.

I've come across vendors that suggest not to store supplies in plastic for long periods after open.

How to increase the life of ejuice
If you don’t plan to use a supply of e-juice for a long time, you can store a large quantity in a deep freezer. This allows the life of these items to increase a lot. If you want your e liquids to last for ages, and you initially received it in a plastic bottle for immediate consumption, then you should transfer it into a glass bottle. Although most eliquids are sold to be vaped in the near future, glass storage bottles are preferred to keep the eliquid in good condition for longer than 2 years. Try to avoid storing e-liquids in plastic bottles. We recommend for you to get the freshest e-juice available from a custom mix lab . This way you know that the e-juice is fresh, and mixed exactly how you like it.

No. There are nothing to leach out from HDPE, PET and LDPE bottles.

Despite that, I've read some people stating that bottles literally melted from having something like TFA's Red Hot flavoring stored in them, and the bottle-making is mostly done overseas (and as a result, it's rather inconsistent). I'd rather not chance it and shell out the extra.. what.. 2$?.. for glass bottles. At the very least, for flavorings. I've never heard of PG/VG degrading bottles (mine is all in plastic), although my nic/flavorings are in glass.

Everyone takes their own steps to ensure safety, I trust the plastic bottles to an extent.

Citrus, cinnamon and some fruits (banana and pear come to mind) are the worry. I almost didn't believe it either until I vaped a banana concoction in a Kayfun clear tank and what do you know, the plastic goes cloudy then over the course of the next hour starts to slowly crack like glass. I was in work at the time with a few hours to go, had to hold it together with Sellotape, such a mess.

HDPE and PET are grand most of the time, but those flavours I'd be more wary of. Little glass apothecary bottles might do. I always like the 10ml bottles here:

I don't trust any plastic bottles, no matter what they contain. That may sound silly, but I don't like what's in most plastics... In an emergency I will use something out of a plastic container but for the most part, I shy away from plastics.

I recently found some recipes of a Cereal Killa clone on reddit and have been mixing a couple batches. I've been wanting to make a big batch and toss it in one of those 8 oz bottles and have that steep. The recipe does contain some FE Lemon and Bergamot, citrusy stuff. So I honestly don't know how those bottles will stand up to that. As well as wanting to make some banana mixes, TFA Ripe Banana comes to mind. :/
