Dunno about having wealth and taste, though :)

Anyway, I am a non-smoker, non-doper, never inhaled stuff for fun before (because smoke inhalation triggers instant asthmatic attack and always has). For a couple of years I have observed people "smoking" something that generated huge white clouds that were actually pleasant to smell. Instead of a toxic fug of cig smoke that would leave me choking, I smelled nice odours and could even carry on a conversation with a vaper instead of fleeing upwind.

I got so curious about the cool steampunk technology and the benign "smoke" that is really steam... that one day I wandered into a vape store just to find out what it was all about. The curiosity got the better of me and I bought a Pockex and a little bottle of zero-nic CEL cafe vanilla. I was almost laughing too hard to try it out the first time (because smoking is So Not Me). But it was kinda fun -- the warm cloud of coffee flavour, the amusing sense of blowing smoke out my nose like someone in a film noir. Felt like playing make-believe with candy cigarettes as a kid (and weren't those a sinister marketing ploy, hey?)...

So that's me -- an oddity. Not kicking the nic, because I've never touched it -- and not huffing the THC or CBD to medicate pain or anxiety -- just vaping for flavour and novelty. I suppose I have some vague notion that I might learn to substitute vaping for snacking, if I can find tasty enough flavours, and that might help me reverse some of my old-fart weight gain. Also seemed like a eucalyptus/mint flavour might be sinus-clearing if one had a cold or flu. Also, with my coffee flavoured vape it's like getting the best part of a cup of coffee (the lovely aroma) without the bitterness or the jitters. Smell is 90 percent of taste!

Anyway, my vaping exploration is pretty shallow so far -- just easy disposable-cartomiser hardware and off the shelf juices. Had a shockingly disappointing experience buying juices, expecting them all to be as smooth and tasty as my first bottle. I got over-enthusiastic and ended up with about 15 bottles none of which I can stand. I tell ya, if I had tried some of these other flavours as my first puff, I would never have vaped again -- eee-yew! ptui! Just got lucky the first time. I wrote about this at greater length in the general forum.

So I'm now expensively seeking the perfect juice, because I seem to have a very picky palate... and maybe eventually I'll get into mixing my own (that could be a fun hobby). Unless I get bored when the novelty wears off.

Hardware: so far, a Pockex for my favourite brew, and 3 Kanger eSmarts for taste testing. Very newbie stuff I know :) I dunno how deeply I really want to dive into the arcana of ... umm... gee, can I call it "vaporware"?

Glad to find this friendly and welcoming forum. Greets to all.

Welcome to the friendly bunch :)

The vast majority here are die hard snokers that couldn't kick the habit until we found ecigs. I wouldn't encourage someone like yourself to vape if you don't need to because although safer it is by no means 100% safe....especially as you are asthmatic.

But on the other hand if you enjoy an odd vape and don't get yourself hooked on nicotine then can't see the harm :) Lots of friendly advice here.

Hi and welcome!

While I agree with @charlie1465 that it’s not 100% safe as far as we know, you’re an adult and there’s worse things you could be doing. And we are going to see non-smokers who vape. people did not have had a choice between vaping and smoking years ago would have chosen to smoke. As we did. I’m glad vaping is an option now, and wish it had been way back when for me, and for all of us smokers.

Thanks for the friendly concern Charlie! Knowing my lungs are kind of sensitive I'm just holding the vape in my mouth and letting it out the nose without deep breathing. It doesn't trigger coughing or any irritation so I think it's pretty safe. Also I'm over 60 so I don't have time to build up decades of exposure to anything subtle :)

I've just found some sources for natural-flavoured juices that are 80 or 100 pct VG also, so I think I can dodge the PG and the horrible artificial flavours. Someone pointed out to me that those harsh, exaggerated, synthetic flavours may be used because of marketing to lifelong smokers whose sense of taste has been blunted -- hadn't thought of that! But I am an amateur chef and artisanal foodie (cheese, country wine, etc) so my sense of taste is pretty acute. What I love about the vaping concept is getting *just* the taste and smell -- the best part of eating, really -- without the temptation to mindless snacking.

Just wanted to say I started vaping (to quit smoking cigs) with a PockeX. Love it so I just bought another one, but I don't think they make them anymore so you might want to stock up on coils before they are gone. Aspire now has a new similar (but better) one called the Tigon... check it out!
