I've been doing some DIY'ing for quite awhile now to save money on juice. But up to this point I've been buying the base already mixed up from ECX - 50/50 pg/vg with 3 mg nicotine. Then I just mix in my flavors. I love how much money I've saved over buying the premade juice. But I've been realizing that I could save even more if I mixed the base myself. PG and VG is cheap, and there seem to be a number of good nic suppliers at reasonable cost. Plus, I'm getting concerned about whether nicotine will be available at reasonable prices in the future and want to store more if this isn't a big hassle for me.

So I've recently bought some PG and VG plus 120 ml of 48mg nicotine. I'm ready to mix up some base and put the rest in the freezer in bottles I bought for that purpose. But I want to make sure my calculations are correct regarding how much nicotine I need to add to the base to get my preferred 3 mg for my juice mixes. A couple of months ago, I read a post where someone put out this formula (I wish I could remember who the poster was to give them credit, sorry I didn't note that down):

amount to make X nicotine level desired / nicotine base strength = how much nicotine base to add

I want to make up 100 ml of base, so this is what I came up with for how much nicotine to add:

100 ml X 3mg/48mg = 6.25 ml

Can someone confirm that I did that right? I don't want to make a mistake with nicotine. Also, since the nic is stored in PG, I'm assuming that for 100 ml of base, I want to add 50 ml of VG and 43.75 ml of PG to the 6.25 ml of nicotine.

Ummm, no. By my calculations, your would add 3ml of Nic. In fact, I really didn't have to calculate anything. 3 is 3% of 100 just like 7 is 7% of 100 and 12 is 12% of 100 and so on.

You should just use a juice calculator so you are certain. There is a good one at the top of this section Ejuice calculator (added quantity calculations) | E-Cigarette Forum

Happy mixing.

Now I'm confused. :D

Since I bought 48mg nicotine, it has to be cut to come down to 3mg.

I apologize, I miss-read and thought you were using 100Mg/Ml. With 48 your numbers are correct. Sorry about that.

I personally always use 100mg. Makes the numbers easier :) But ScubaDans calculator is a great tool.
