(A quick note: I tend to ramble in this post, so unless you're in the mood for my personal story, you might want to skip the first couple of paragraphs)

Hello! I have been a vaper for almost a year now. I purchased a Joye 510 at the suggestions of multiple users here in the forums, and I've loved it. Back then, I was looking for a good replacement for my analog cigarettes, and it has served it's purpose very well. I will admit that I have not treated my PV as well as I should have. I lost my spare atomizer and battery some time ago, but not before I managed to run it over with my car (it still worked fine :p). The atty and bat I have left are pretty scratched up from dropping it on the ground, but aside from mussing up the pretty black paint job, it still works perfectly. I have, however, noticed recently that it has become somewhat... temperamental after I charge the battery. After charging the battery, it doesn't like to work until after I've whacked it a couple of times. I think this may be a sign that it is starting to fail on me, and I'm interested in getting a new PV.

I'm not a real heavy vaper most of the time. Honestly, I can go for several days without needing nicotine as long as I am not under stress (this is rarely the case). The biggest instigator for needing nicotine is when I have been drinking. I suppose the obvious solution is to just give up alcohol as well, but I don't see that happening. I love to drink socially, and I loved to go out on the patio with my friends and light up a cigarette with them. Since replacing the cancer-sticks with the 510, not that much has changed except that when new people come over they ALWAYS, without fail, ask about it. It's actually kind of rewarding to explain to them what it is, what it does and how it works. After explaining it to them, they almost always ask to try it, and I am usually happy to oblige. I also love to puff away when I'm at my computer especially if I'm playing a game (Civilization IV is probably the worst offender) so a USB bypass would be great so that I don't have to worry about running out of battery power.

Anyway, here is a short list of what I am looking for:
1) Vapor production (the bigger the cloud, the better)
2) USB bypass and/or a long battery life (~4 hours of heavy vaping)
3) Sturdy construction (as I mentioned, I am not the most careful person, so something that can take a beating is a plus)
4) Cost (preferably less than $100USD, but this is mostly a guideline)

As far as aesthetics goes, I'm pretty much open to anything. It doesn't have to look like an analog cigarette, or a pen, or anything really. It doesn't have to be ultra-portable either; I much prefer functionality over looks.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Linking reputable websites where I can purchase the PV would also be greatly appreciated.

I'm also searching for a new mod like you, I currently have a 3.7V box mod, and am probably going to buy the saber touch. It has a 5 year warranty and the best button I have seen on any mod. It is available at http://www.vapormoon.com. If you wait a little bit a variable volt version is coming out. You may want to check out this mod and if you get the color of the week its $85. There are many reviews of this mod on YouTube - Broadcast Yourself..

Hey another Civ fan, I started on Civ for dos, now I run Civ IV and play when I get a chance. To get in under $100 for all of it I'd recommend the eGo or Riva. The eGo Mega will give you the battery life you want and gives great vapor production, especially if you use LR atty's. I think they're pretty durable too. An eGo Mega setup will run around $75 or so. Get a passthru for another $13 and you've got room for some juice. I'd recommend Electronic Cigarette Supplies & Electronic Cigarette Refills for Name-Brand Electronic Cigarettes! E-Cigs from LiteCigUSA. I ordered my setup from them and specified Mega batteries and LR atty's in place of the regulars. They just charged me the price of an atty, $7.95, for the total upgrade. And they have free shipping on orders over $15. A battery lasts me about 5-8 hours, depending on how much I vape. If you don't need that much just order the standard eGo and save a few bux.

Silver Bullet. $85. Big, shiny, heavy, indestructible beast from altsmoke.com that vapes @ 3.7V, 6V, or 7.4Volts. Strap an HV (high voltage, high resistance) atty on there if you go the high voltage route. @ 3.7V, it uses the monster 18650 battery that lasts the heaviest of vapers 1.5 days, and some people get 3 or 4 days out of 'em.

I bought one last year, and it has been used and abused (currently on loan to it's 3rd user), and still works just like the day I got it.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I've got a couple of questions/comments though:

"LR" stands for low-resistance right? I assume so, and I also assume that the difference is that they get hotter and therefore produce more vapor at the cost of their lifespan. Please correct me if need be.

A couple of these devices appear to only be a battery housing that accepts a variety of different batteries and atty's to really talor your vape to your personal preference. That was a bit confusing to me at first. Devices like this are cool, but I don't think I am a heavy enough vaper to justify getting one of these devices. I think I'd like to stick with something that is "pre-built", but if you have a good argument as to why you think I'd really prefer something like the V3, I'm all ears.

@brandon555:
The two you recommended look nearly identical to me. They do offer a convenient "full-kit" version that includes everything I'd need, which I like. The price is a bit higher than I'd like, but I'm sure you get what you pay for.

@son et lumiere:
Everything about The Buzz makes me think it's a vibrator lol. It looks like a very cool little device, but I just don't know if I can justify the price.

@jmaul99:
I really like a lot about the Saber Touch, and I'd probably prefer it over The Buzz, but even so, I still don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for.

@cskent:
I'm very new to Civilization. I was too young for the first one, I was too busy playing WarCraft II and Command & Conquer for the second, I was too busy playing WC:III for the third, and I originally opted for Rome: Total War over Civ IV. I thought I would enjoy R:TW's real-time battles more than Civ IV's boring turn-based system AND I would still get a turn-based strategy game with R:TW. I finally picked up Civ IV for cheap on Steam several months ago and I'm really having trouble putting it down. It quickly shot it's way near the top of my all-time favorite games for sure.
Anyway... back on topic...
The Joyetech EGO honestly looks perfect. I've got a couple of questions that hopefully you or someone else can answer:
1) What's the atty cover/cone do?
2) What's a drip tip?
3) How did you special order the LR atty's and the mega battery upgrades? Did you just contact them or leave a request for the upgrade in the order comments or what?

I'm all but sold on the Joyetech EGO; that thing looks perfect for me. It honestly looks like a bigger, better version of the 510 which is essentially what I am searching for. Thank you to everyone who left a suggestion; I really appreciate it.

I guess I showed my age by saying I used DOS. Anyway, 1) the cone cover just goes over the atty and makes it look nicer, it's supposed to help preheat the air prior to entering the atty but I can't tell a difference with or without it. I use it 'cause it looks rite purtyr with it. 2) A drip tip goes in place of the cart on the atty and you just drip juice onto the element. It's less hassle than cart's in my opinion, and they're cheap at $2 to $5 depending on where you buy it so it's well worth trying. 3) To get my kit customized the way I wanted it I just used the "Contact Us" page here: Login and told them I wanted Mega batteries (900mah) subbed for the regular (650mah), and LR atty's subbed for the regular ones. They replied with an email within a few minutes and told me to just add an extra atty onto my order to make up the price difference ($7.95). They just didn't ship the extra, so my upgrade cost that much. Pretty good in my opinion. The eGo is a bigger, better version of the 510 in my opinion. I've got a bunch of 510's too and I'll keep them for backups, but I quit using them as soon as I got my eGo's. One Mega battery lasts most of the day where a 510 would only go 1 1/2 to 2 hrs between charges.

On the eGo:

1. Cone cover warms the vapor a little. Helps keep any liquid leaks (minor ones) from making too much of a mess (doesn't really help that much). Mainly... just looks better. You don't need to use it.

2. Drip tips are so you can drip directly onto the atty instead of using a cart and filler... some people prefer this. Not unique to the ego.

3. I just ordered them seperate. I'd test with the normal batteries to see if you need the bigger ones... I vape almost constantly and the standard battery lasts me about a day and a half. I prefer the USB battery over the mega/xl batteries. Works like a passthrough, can vape and charge at the same time (I spend most of my day at a computer).

I'd suggest looking at the XL atomizer/carts, produces more vapor than the standard 510 atty does. There have been reports of LR atties shorting out ego batteries, which would be bad. I ordered my first XL atty from Janty, they were out when I wanted more so I ordered another from awesomevapor (they call monster atty).

Yes you are correct. The Icon and Prodigy are just tubes that offer a variety of battery and atomizer configurations in essence. However they are built tough and will last forever. The switches are purely mechanical, meaning nothing will fail like most proprietary batteries ala 510, eGo, etc... are prone to. The batteries they take can be found anywhere and are inexpensive. So instead of replacing a $20 ego batt, you only spend a fraction of that.

The V3 takes rcr123s which are a few bucks a piece. Mine have lasted nearly six months. My eGo shorted out after a couple weeks. They have a comprehensive kit that includes charger, two sets of batts, adapter for atty of your choice, and an atomizer. A lot of people like it because unlike the V2 there have been no switch problems.
