Please help me, what am I doing wrong?

I figured I would start a new thread in hopes of getting some responses.

I started trying my hand hand at rebuilding coils and have watched many many videos. Mainly Rip Trippers videos. My nautlis head is shot and I have some arriving today so that one is trash. A few months back I bought this VV ego battery and mini protank + that goes by the name of Agent 009 Cobra. I am not sure if it is really a mini protank but I watched rip trippers video on how to rebuild the coil and it sure looks the same.

The problem is that I can only get about .69 or so ohms out of the thing. I did 10 wraps (opposed to his 12 because my 12 touched either side of the head which would short it out) using 28 guage kanthal and 2mm silica wick. What am I doing wrong?

Ps: I burnt the crap out of my finger with the Tortch too!!! So badly it warped my finger nail! Not to mention all the pin ...... from the kanthal! Oops, I just mentioned it didn't I...

The wraps of the coil are touching, as they should be, but some wraps have not developed and oxide coating yet. Try torching and squeezing the coil with tweezers/pliers until you get a reasonable reading.

30awg Kanthal may be a better option for this, as it will take a little more than half the number of wraps for the same resistance so it will fit easier and be less prone to shorting to the head.

Sorry to hear about your fingers. I use 3 inch needle nose pliers to save mine.

Without pics of your build, it's hard to be real specific, but I find 28 way too big to fit in that type of head. You just can't get enough turns to get to a useable resistance. 30 is a better choice, and you might even want to try some 32...

What type of PV are you Running this .69 Ohm build on?

Thanks for the info, I guess ii will need to get some 32 when I can. I bought 28 because the video I watched all recomended it.

I took the build apart due to it not working properly though. And all I have ATM is an ego V2 battery to answer that question. I don't think that coil would work on that battery even if I did try it.

Yeah, 28 is a bit large for a PT head to hit a good spot for your battery. 30 is probably best, 29 will fit nicely as well.

With that gizmo, the coils come out nice and tight, no torching or squeezing, just mount them in the head and fire. That first fire or two needs to be short, the legs will glow first, but just lightly "rake" or "pool cue" your rod through the coil and it will glow perfectly from the inside out.
