Ferrets are actually very sweet and loveable animals though. My son was coming home from work late one night and something on the side of the road caught his eye as he was pulling into our neighborhood. He stopped his car and as soon as he got out a ferret ran up his leg and into his arms. Well, of course he brought the poor little thing home with him. I have 2 parrots so really could not let the ferret run around the house loose. I put him in a cat carrier crate. First I had him in the breakfast room but then I moved him to the screened porch. We took him out a few times a day and he was so playful and loveable. We had no idea how to care for him. We put a sign at the top of the neughborhood hoping that his owner would see it. After a few days he just wasn't acting right. I located a ferret rescue that told me to immediately put him in cool water in our bath tub as he was probably over heated. Sure enough, he perked right up. Anyway, we made arrangements to take him to this shelter. The day that we were to take him we got a phone call from the owner! They never saw the sign until that day and had been devastated. He evidently got off their screened porch because he learned how to open the door. The funny thing is that they lived across the street and down a few houses from us. They were in tears when they came to pick him up so I know that he had a good home. That was my only experience with a ferret but I have rescued many creatures great and small. :)
