I just want a 5v passthrough battery - nothing else. I don't want the whole kit. It'd be nice to know what my options are - like what mods there are in 5v but I cannot for the life of me find a clear comprehensive breakdown of what's available. It's like pulling teeth. I've tried googling everything from "5v passthroughs" to "complete listing of all e-cig mods" but nothing too informative comes up. It's all vague. The one list I did find did not list the voltages (not even in the specs) as if this information had no bearing on a potential customer's decision. I'm beginning to think that because they know there are so many newbies they deliberately don't make things very clear so that after you spend money and get something that doesn't work for you you end up having to spend even more later and all because of a general lack of understanding that the vendor does not care to provide or make clear. That's where I'm at and I'm not going to make the same mistake. Where can I find a simple list of 5v passthrough batteries to choose from where I can buy just the batt and not the whole kit? Why does this seem so difficult?

Have you tried looking at the list of vendors on the opening forum page, printing the list, then just start going down the line, and looking at what they have to sell? Thats where I would start. Once you find the pass thru that looks interesting, you can click on it, and generally that brings up more information.

I may be mistaken - but in general, 5v passthroughs have no battery. 5v bassthroughs use the 5v directly from the AC to USB adapter (and it needs to be an adapter that puts out at least 2 amps aka 2000mA and some LR stuff may need 3 amps). You cannot use a 5v passthrough on a computer's USB (computer PC slots only have 500mA of power available). You can buy 5v passthroughs all over - but they have no battery. And the ones that do have a battery are 3.7v or 3.4v (like Ego) or whatever the ecig's normal voltage is.

And I may be mistaken on this too, but I am pretty sure all true 5v ecigs (mods) use two 3v protected industrial lithium ion or AW IMR batteries to make 6v and circuitry to reduce that to 5v.

You can also get 5v with a vv box mod or other VV mod (some of which use a single larger battery plus a booster capacitor circuit to raise the voltage).

Are you talking about just a basic 5v 510 passthrough like these at MadVapes?

I may be mistaken - but in general, 5v passthroughs have no battery. 5v bassthroughs use the 5v directly from the AC to USB adapter (and it needs to be an adapter that puts out at least 2 amps aka 2000mA and some LR stuff may need 3 amps).

These two answers sound like what you need. I am also pretty sure that passthroughs that have a battery in line are going to the 3.7v output of the battery. The passthroughs without a battery will give you 5v provided you connect them to a USB power source with enough amperage output. The USB port on your computer will not supply it and neither will many typical USB wall chargers.

You have two options:

a 5 volt pass-through (no battery) which will give you true 5 volt vaping, as long as you plug it into house/car current using a 5 volt/2 ampl USB to AC adapter like this: 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs

Here's the pass-through: Smok Tech 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

The second option is a good 5 volt model PV. There is the less expensive route, such as a good 5 volt box mod such as this one: 5V Regulated Mod - Ken's Boxmods

Then there is the 5 volt models that are more traditional and some are considered the best on the market like this one that comes with a lifetime warranty and has a legion of fans: GLV-2 Electronic Cigarette [GLV-2] - $120.00 : Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

I hope this covers it for you.

Good Luck
