Hello. I have been vaping for over a year and I am at my wits end. I have been using a tank system with a 1.5 ohm dual coil smoktech cart on a 1100 mah ego style battery from esmokeclub.com. I like the battery but now I can never find the carts in stock the usual places that I shop (emokeclub, youvape). I just ordered the carts from another place and they do not fit my battery's which makes no sense because they are the same brand and type I have been buying but they will not screw down. I have also been wanting to try clearomizers. I bought one and it fits on my battery's outer ego thread but for some reason it does not work at all. It's like it's not making contact with the battery. I really like the way the carts hit, I just wanted to try something simpler. My battery's are 510 ego style but it seems like every time I buy a product that is 510 or ego style to try (a clearomizer or different cartomizers) they do not fit or do not work with my battery even though they are 510 or ego style. Can you guys recommend anything for me because I am at my wits end with these. I do not have a lot of money at the moment but I am willing to try a reasonable new set-up if that is what I have to do. Thank you.

check to make sure that your positive pin didnt get pushed down. if in fact it did you can pull it up. if it didnt you can try to pull your post on the atomizer. that way it will make contact with your firing pin on the ego. search youtube for pull your post. pbusardo has a video talking about what to do.

Hi RachelF,

Welcome! My advice would be to purchase a new kit, provided you have the budget to do so. For starters, your current kit is over a year old, and there is no way to predict what the remaining lifespan of it is. Add to that the fact that you are having troubles with it, and it just seems to make sense to me to go for something new. What you should go with however, is another discussion, and really depends on your personal vaping habits and where you want to go with it. Personally, I would suggest considering something like the ZMax V3 (round like your egos, but bigger) or the Innokin MVP 2 (box shaped, but lots of great reviews), depending on what your shape preference is. Both of these tend to be well reviewed, people seem to love them, and they are known to work with almost every standard 510 tank or carto out there. As for tanks, I personally prefer the Kanger Protank 2 and the iSmoka (or Vapeonly) BCC Mega, and tend to run between $10-14, and the replacement coils for them can be found for about 8-10 dollars for a 5 pack. There are cheaper tanks out there as well, but many of them do not have removable coils, so when they wear out or die, you throw them away. Economically, the PT and the iSmoka tanks will last a lot longer and be cheaper in the end.

Just my :2c: on the topic, HTH !!!

Can you provide links to what you have been buying? Obviously something is wrong and we can't tell by your description. I looked at the stuff at the place you buy from and the batteries look a little weird - the 510 connector on some of them look unusually long in the photos.

That place also sells a lot of stuff that isn't 510.

So does this mean that whatever starter kit I get I am going to need to replace it frequently? What is the average lifespan of a unit?

Thanks for the help so far. One of my batteries is a new one that I have only been using about a month so I can't imagine that the pin would be pushed in but I will give it a try. This is the battery I have been using eSmokeClub - Battery - eGO - Riva 1100mAh - Electronic Cigarette Batteries with these carts eSmokeClub - CCartomizers - 510DCT2 - 1.5ohm - Refillable - Single. When I buy these carts from esmokeclub or youvape they fit fine but they never have any in stock now. So I just bought some here at vapor alley Punched Dual Coil Cartomizers. These are too small on the threads and won't connect even though they are also smoktech dual core 510 carts and they look just like the other ones. I started on this setup about a year ago from an old 801 penstyle. Much better vapor and I would never go back to the super old setup but I am so confused about all of this new stuff. With the 801 if any part said 801 it worked, now if I try to buy parts from other vendors that say 501 or ego style for my 501/ego style batteries they never work. I wonder if it is the batteries from esmokeclub or what. I have no complaints about the longevity of the batteries but I need to be able to buy carts and clearomizers from other vendors.

Ok what you got should work. But I recall seeing a thread recently of people complaining about the threading on SmokTech cartos being a bit "sloppy" and not catching the threads very well on their APV. They were complaining that the loose fit of the ST carto threads seem to be damaging the 510 connector if you weren't careful using them. I'm wondering if you got a 5 pack of exceptionally badly machined threads on yours. The reason I cannot locate that thread is they were talking about cartos as an aside to their APV's - it's just not coming up on a search.

I'm hoping someone like Baditude comes along. He's pretty much an exclusive carto user and if there are any complaints about ST cartos and sloppy threads on 'em I'll bet he's heard about it.

The clearo could be a whole different matter. If it's eGo threaded they don't have any inner 510 threads. It could very well be that the center post of your battery has been pushed down just enough that it's not making electrical contact with center connector on the clearo. The other possibility is you received a clearo with a bad (open) coil and nothing will fix that, short of replacing the coil. Since you are using eGo type batteries the only way to test for that is with a volt/ohm electrical meter.
