I was DIY ing some flavor's for the past couple of weeks. When I found out the Food Essence's available in my area were Glycol based I was excited! So I made some e-juice and have been testing them for a while now.
I did notice that a simple VG 15%(water+ethanol) was very smooth. But the flavoured ones had a bit of a sting. Minor tho but still it was there. Well who cared as long as I got the taste of it!
Yesterday I was fiddling with the bottle and noticed that rather than having Propylene Glycol in them they had Polypropylene Glycol!! I was "ROYALLY ......" at myself. Well coz I wasn't the only guy smoking it. Threw the entire batch away.

Now about Polypropylene Glycol..
I couldn't find much information about it through gooble, by means of e-cig forums. But wikipedia speaks enough of it.
Even tho it hails from the same (hydroxyl a.k.a alcohol) group, this is a polymer of PG. Well it is not as toxic as Polyethylene Glycol, which is used in tooth paste's and medical applications, creams bla bla, it is still an irritant to the Lung and a CNS depressant(like alcohol). And it is not "ANTI FREEZE". IDK why but this is a term people coin usually for signifying something not "vapable".

Even tho ingesting this wont cause you that much harm as a cigarette mite cause or even car exhaust, why risk it? There are 1000's of flavour's that come with a PG base or Alcohol. I think oil is safe in these because the oil's in these are in the edible category. I reckon, bad oil vapour is that which originates from Petroleum based Oil's like Mineral oil, Engine Oil, anything synthetic or toxic of nature. In a couple of words, those which are not edible or barely are.

I was just shocked to realize how foolish I was, hence this post:blink:. Just wanted to share it here. Hell why is it even being used in Food flavouring's when Pg can be substituted .. Cheaper maybe?? Or easier to handle... Who knows?

Why don't you scrutinize your flavour closely ??:p

well, now that you brought this up, my bottle of dekang juice says it has 70% glycerol, which i read is the stuff everyone's saying is anti-freeze. Shouldn't it say glycol?

yes
toss it immediately
Glycerol is categorized under a cryoprotective agent or solvent.
Here's what I gathered:
Glycerol:

Yeah , I've heard of jokes . It isn't readily apparent on the internet without use of emoticons , but whatever.Since there was no way to know you were joking,I thought it prudent to comment so the many newbies that seek reliable info here didn't threw out there stash of liquids.

Nothing personal. Though I think you feel otherwise by your remark.

It DID ;) !

Well Anti Freeze is the term used for a compound that will lower the Freezing point of the desired(targeted) liquid, so that it will continue to function, at temperatures below its normal freezing point.

Well technically speaking, Ethanol is also ANTI FREEZE!!!!
84 proof liqour has a freezing point of -34.44°C (-30°F) 42%v/v.
Oh oh.. it's Anti freeze folks...!!
Will you dump it?? Yep I will :toast: :D
