OldJoe, I always build my own computers and I make sure I choose quality components. I like to think that policy paid off today. No damage to the pc whatsoever. Even the USB port is still working.

No doubt some solid state circuit protection similar to my fuseless BMW motorcycles. Good you didn't have further damage.

Due to the somewhat sketchy reputation of these Chinese made devices, I've chosen to risk the USB charging on $10 hubs or wall-warts instead of my much harder to replace computer equipment.

That one will in fact do exactly what happened to you with standard 510 batteries.

Part of the problem is the terms that are often used. Many refer to the wallwart that they use for their phone as a 'charger'. Is it? Not really. It's simply a dumb power supply that feeds the actual charging circuit found in the phone.

The Boge disposable 'charger' falls into this class. There is no circuit in it that monitors the volts/batttery to determine when to stop. The batteries themselves do the cutting off.
