hi guys and gals,i am looking for a bit of advice on building my did. I started out by watching countless vidoes on u tube, oxidized my ss wick and wire;4 wraps of wire.it starts off working fine for about 3 or 4 pulls, and then pop it is gone !!! Any ideas where i may be going wrong,it is time consuming and very frustrating. i have tried 4 times now allways with the same result.

cheers...Terry

Do you use the drill bit method or cig paper method?
If not, you can search this forum and see if those might help.

Make sure you do not wrap the coils TOO tight....you want it tight enough but not digging into the wick.
You will want to dry burn the coils (preferably with no wick in) a few times on low voltage. This helps strengthen it.
If you choose to wrap the coils around the wick, you can also pulse the vamo at low volts and adjust your coils.
Slowly up the volts...maybe .2 each time and keep pulsing. I normally start at 3v and work my way up to 4 volts.
Then add a few drops to the coil of your juice and keep pulsing. Work out any hot spots.
Do this a few times....then add your juice when it looks good.
Basically hold the power for a few seconds....poke the coils... let go. Rinse repeat.... basically just dont hold down the power till cutoff.
I find pulsing better....and less likely to pop the coil while working on it.

Pulsing it will help add some strength to that coil....it helps me anyway.

Also...make sure you are using a lighter and heating your wire before installing it. It will help with wrapping it.
It seems to pull out the extra tension in the wire and make it easier to wrap without stretching out.

Before you have juice in the tank, have you dry-burned the coil to check for hotspots?

It's easier to pulse-test the coils on any old mechanical mod, but you want to have the Vamo around to check the resistance first and make sure it fires correctly once or twice, especially in the beginning. When you check the coils, you want to look for any coil that might be much brighter than all of the others. More often than not, it's the top wrap, and you can just gently poke the wick and coil below that spot to move the hotspot down the coils, until all of the wraps glow evenly.

Usually you'll be able to even out a coil even on a less-than-perfect wick, but if worse comes to worse, torch the wick once more and try again.

Hi terry

I'm new too rba as well but been heavy in the rebuilding last couple weeks, I have a did, aga-t, Phoenix and have done lots of coils and ss wicks as well as dual coils..

Coming from a semi newby and what I have found with coils is if your top coil is only one hot try fiddling a little then pulse adjust distance to centre post pulse rotate ss mesh around a little as it may be shorting on the fold keep pulsing on low voltage and eventually it will all light up....be patient

Sometimes using the drill bit method doesn't always work out for me as it may still be too loose to mesh so I will just rap it by hand, and make sure you oxidize the crap of it

Cheers
