I am running a 5v straight passthrough with a 901 atty, and it works great. It's main purpose is to charge 510 and tornado batteries on the road, but it also runs a passthrough fine.

It looks like the voltage is only 2.8 volts.350 ma. I don't think you can activate the atty with it. You need at least 3.5 for most atties.

350mah is the rate that the base unit charges the AA batteries at. 6.5hrs for 2x 2000mah batteries.

Is the base permanently attached to the unit or can it be detached and thrown away? Also can normal AA batteries be used to power a USB passthrough in emergency?

Great for us Janty Stick users!!

--EDIT-- just ordered one after reading the description!! The ability to use AND charge at the same time made me click the order button and the fact it uses safe and easily replaceable NiMHs too! My Janty Stick is going to like this!! The Kensington I have is not as useful as this will be and the dock is a wonderful idea, I assume from the pictures the mains powersupply is in the dock - even better!

The unit detaches from the base, so you can go walkabout with it. It is about twice the size of a zippo. like a small candybar phone. It has a USB port that is confirmed by me to run one of Gary Dibley's 5v passthroughs. The front panel of the unit slides off like the back cover of a mobile phone to pop in the 2x AA rechargeable batts.
The base also has a 5v USB socket which will serve your purpose at home in situ.
The removable unit can be used indefinitely as it takes AA rechargables. I can't see why you couldn't use alkalines but don't forget yourself and place it on the base unit with them in there lol
The base can be left attached to the mains, so no more need to risk that PC motherboard.

It sounds perfect :D I suppose it will be great for travelling too since no special USB plug/Euro adapter is needed! It could also charge my Kodak digital camera hehehe! If I like it and I'm sure I will, I just have to be buying a 2nd! Can it charge only from the mains or does it have a cigarette lighter socket/place to plug in a solar panel??

I just have the solar panels as play things so its no biggie, I could even carry around spare Nimhs that I charged in my Duracell 4 AA fast wall charger!! Not that I would really need to with 2400mah, that is more than my explosive Li-ion Kensington :D I assume its actual output is 5volts as USB must be 5 volts to work hehe even though the batteries aren't! Its also good to hear its powering your passthrough, that gives me options for the future should I go back to one with no in-line battery!

Another bonus I guess is if the passthrough short circuits such as the plug isn't in right or the passthrough is Chinese, the vape doesn't end! My Kensington shuts down and will not wake up until plugged in to charge if that happens leaving me with no vape until I get to a USB port!! With this I guess pulling out and replacing the batteries will bring it back to life :)

I have 4x 15w panels in parallel in the garden, for 60w total, and use them to charge up my two Freecharge Wezas. Each Weza provides me with 7ah of power at 12v, so I always have emergency power on tap for my e-cigs.

Whoa you got much more solar power than me :D I'm jealous!!! I got a fold out 2 -3 watt solar panel and a 200mah solar panel from Maplins! They can power some LEDs, radios and motors for fun hehe! If I attach them together I bet it is not even an amp! I do have a box with 2x5amp lead acid batteries with inverter and 12v input that could be useful though :D

How much were your panels!?!?

60W Solar Power Kit - Free Delivery

It generates a steady 16 - 18v even on just a fair weather day, and 24v on a sunny day. It is a great price too.
If you get one of Maplin's discount vouchers then that takes a further £15 or so off of it.
I think the convenience of having a backup source of power far outweighs the reasonable cost. Most 60w solar solutions cost double this price.

Well it finally turned up yesterday and its great!! It vapes when charging and when its finished it vapes on the road!! The geen light seems to stay on when something is attached even if at the other end its detached and it charges using a timer so if the batteries are not fully discharged, it will overcharge and eventually damage them but other than that its fantastic!!!

I could charge the batteries in a proper charger and pop them in when its time to vape! Hmm I wonder how long I could vape for using my new 8 pack of Eneloop low self discharge AA batteries :D I have the batteries but sadly the charger is stuck at the Royal Mail so I will have to find out tomorrow!!

When you pop the unit on it automatically charges for eight hours. If you tested it then popped it back on the base it would charge for another timed eight hours (I think).
It is only a trickle charge anyway, so I doubt the odd overcharge would do any lasting damage.
My green light goes off and stays off until I remove and replace the external unit, at which time it starts another 8hr trickle charge.

Well it lasted all day yesterday and still has juice left in it! I didn't even plug the Stick into another USB port that was less than a foot away!! I'm going to take it with me again today uncharged to see how long it can go for before it finally does run flat :D If it does my new batteries come in a handy carrying case so I can just pop them in or use the Kensington!! Then when I get home I can happily charge the fully discharged batteries!

If all goes well I'm not even going to bother taking a charger with me to my brother's for the weekend. I wonder if I could last a week with my 10 AA rechargeable batteries!

Now if only e-liquid would last that long hehehe!
