Yeah, I'm constantly reminded of just how much of a dork I've really become. When I was in my 20s, I was in a hardcore band, and well . . . use your imagination. Now, half my day is spent reading, the other half potty training a 2 year old.

But I seriously love American history and politics. Vapor King in one hand, A Wolf by the Ears: Thomas Jefferson and Slavery in the other.

Last night our local news reported another significant drop in smokers. What they didn't mention was the impact that drop will have on future tax revenue. Not long after one of our brilliant Governors imposed a $0.75 a pack "fee" (over and above our already enormous tax burden) on us we switched to RYO which they were not able to tax because our laws were based on packs of cigarettes bought...

We weren't buying cigarettes, we were buying loose tobacco and tubes. When i learned that the brainiacs that run this state were finally looking at taxing all tobacco, i started looking for an alternative. Minnesota did pass their all tobacco product tax back in June of 2010, i was told it was written based on the language the Feds were planning to use when they pass their law. We're still wondering how we were represented in any and all cig/tobacco taxes and "fees" ("It's not a tax, it's a fee!!!" you bahleeve me don't ya???) Sure we do...
i get so ticked when our "leaders" forget that we can think for ourselves :glare:

Ms. Biidaaban the government's business model on cigs is one of the dumbest in history. They need the tax revenue, but due to economic climate people can no longer afford the high price of cigs, so instead of lowering the taxes so people can afford them again, they raise the taxes more. It really isn't a tax as you said, it's a fee... A fee they can't afford to not collect.....

what we need to some how do....is get e-cigs listed as medical something or other....

i tried an inhaler [prescription] once... and it was like sucking on a wet nasty hairball

and did NOTHING for my nic craving...

but then again...last time i tried to quit i went cold turkey cause the patch costs too much. [but yeah... i kinda used like 3 of the big ones at the same time so that's prolly why. i know.... i know.... not good. but that's what to took to take the edge off for me]

so maybe we don't wanna go that rout? too expensive? need a prescription... need heath ins.... yeah. that may not be the best thing after all....

i'm sorry, but i'm not interested in ideas on how to fix our government. I don't have any ideas and have given up [i am a reformed protester, petition signing, letter writing obsessive political type]. What does interest me, is how to keep our e-cigs legal and affordable. I wanna beat the devil with his own friggin fiddle....

just a thought.... anyone see the family guy episode where they declare there house/yard as there own country ? idk why i'm thinkin that at this particular moment =]

NO, NO, NO, NO! That's exactly what the FDA wanted! It would mean very strict regulatory controls and may require a prescription. Not to mention fees...

Device fees: http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-19038.pdf
Under the act, all submission fees and the periodic reporting fee are set as a percent of the standard (full) fee for a premarket application (see 21 U.S.C. 379j(a)(2)(A)), and the act sets the standard fee for a premarket application, including a BLA, a premarket report, and an efficacy supplement, at $236,298 for FY 2011 (see 21 U.S.C. 379j(b)); this is referred to as the ‘‘base fee’’)

Drug fees: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011-08-01/pdf/2011-19332.pdf
This document establishes fee rates for FY 2012 for application fees for an application requiring clinical data ($1,841,500), for an application not requiring clinical data or a supplement requiring clinical data ($920,750), for establishment fees ($520,100), and for product fees ($98,970).

That doesn't include the cost of actually obtaining the clinical data, ie. animal or human testing.

From what I understand, they classified all ecigs as "tobacco products", not just the nic liquids. By the wording of it, we would still get taxed on 0mg stuff.

Unfortunately, true. Plus it applies to everything...

The term “tobacco product” means any product made or derived from tobacco that is intended for human consumption, including any component, part, or accessory of a tobacco product.
