They've gotta be real. You can even see the spots showing through on the melanistic leopard. Soooo adorable!

Oh cool, a new word! I had to look it up in my medical dictionary. Didn't find melanistic, but found melanism, and obviously melanistic means pertaining to melanism. And I did notice the spots on him too. And they both seem to have blue eyes, although the black one's eyes look darker. I guess that trait must be universal in newborns!

Yes, I've seen that but never knew the term for it! I noticed black-on-black stripes on my friend's kitten when it's fur began to be less kitten-fluffy, at about 6-7 weeks. The black jaguar at the San diego Zoo has these visible spots, too.
