I too have been on the quest for DIYing great tobacco flavoring. The hardest part seems to be riding that line between a strong, rich tobacco taste and completely overpowering tobacco taste. Well, that and the required steeping - making a juice then having to wait a week or more before it's "finished" is just plain cruel. It's incredibly satisfying however! I vaped almost nothing but BWB before I started DIY, and have really been trying to nail that tobacco taste. I gotta give it to Don, even though I'll never get his actual recipes, he showed me how Tobacco flavors should taste in a vape, and gave me something to work towards in my own DIY.

I've found I really don't like Seedmans, or at least I have no clue how to use it properly. Generally I use TPA and Flavor West, with a dash of Tobacco Absolute for a nice tobacco kick. I've also found Tobacco flavors require a lot more fine tuning than other juices, going through seemingly endless reiterations until it's just right.

Anyways, Here's my Menthol Tobacco Recipe, it's just about finished (I think), and I love it.

Menthol Tobacco (10 ml)
2 drops diluted TA
.4 ml 7 Leaves Tobacco
.3 ml Honey Wood Tobacco
.3 ml Cowboy
.3 ml Camtel Ultimate
.1 ml Maple Rum Tobacco
.25 ml Creme De Menthe
Ethyl Maltol
10 Scoops of Menthol Crystals (Less or more, depending on the mixer's desire)
.25 ml Vape Wizard (I have no idea what this does, but for some reason I use it in everything).

Steep until you can't take it any more (My last batch steeped for a good 30 hours or so.. heh heh :))

Is the TPA DK_Tab flavoring good on it's own?

I don't care much for it on its own and to be honest, since I don't like it on its own, I haven't experimented with it as a mix with other flavors. Maybe one day I will play around with it. Right now I'm just weeding out the ones I like from the ones I might like with the right mix and then the pile that grows bigger each day.....the ones I can't bring myself to try because the smell is like cheap perfume on a sweaty body.

Some of the new juice vendors use tobacco extraction to make WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloids) to flavor their juice. WTA contains all the tobacco alkaloids found in the tobacco plant and not just nicotine. This juice tastes GREAT but would be very difficult to DIY because of the extraction process you would need to use. I don't really want to use WTA because of some concerns I have about the safety of WTA, and the other alkaloids can be more addictive than nicotine. WTA is not FDA approved and would then be the only ingredient I would be using that is not approved by the FDA for human consumption, so I just steer clear of it.

I believe BWB uses only tobacco and other FLAVORINGS in their juices but produces some of the best juices out there. WTA was not around when Don first started BWB and originally created his recipes. I do believe some, actually most of his recipes do include some Tobacco Absolute. (Remember this when you are mixing up my Cowboy recipe Landscaper. Try 1 drop of TA dilution per 5ml.)

Pete

Hey Pete, can you list the vendors that use WTA in their liquids. I have only found one that is ecf registered and they don't have it for sale very often. Would be nice to have a consistant supply of this stuff.

Here is my go to DIY tobacco recipe. I call it Who Dat Tobacco Juice.

Recommend 65/35 PG/VG. All flavors are TPA.

Tobacco Blend Alc 10%
Malted Milk 7%
Hazel Nut 2.5%
French Vanilla 1%
TA 10%* 1%
M Type 1%

* TA 10% mix I use is actually TA already diluted to 50%. So if you have straight TA, use a 5% dilution in PG.

Cook juice in open glass bottle for 30-40 minutes in hot water. I use a crock pot for this step. Good to go after 12 hours or so. Better after a week.

Very interesting, the part about cooking the juice. Is this a common practice for DIYers and vendors, and what does it do?

Thank you!

Okay...AzPlumber this goes against my better judgement...

There are 2 camps to the WTA debate. One camp thinks WTA is the best thing since sliced bread, I am from the other camp. I think adding WTA back into our e-juice is dangerous and just asking for trouble.

There are 2 main methods of creating WTA, but I am unsure of the details of either method. Both methods use a tobacco extraction process that extracts all the alkaloids and some other minor chemicals from the tobacco plant. This extraction mixture is then added into e-juice for additional flavor. IT TASTES GREAT! BUT NONE OF THESE ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS OR THE EXTRACTION PROCESS IS FDA APPROVED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!

Some of these additional alkaloids are known to be more addictive than nicotine. That's why they taste so good to us ex-smokers. (We miss them bad!) These additional alkaloids working in concert with nicotine make the e-juice as addictive as some really powerful illegal drugs we read about in the news everyday. That's why you think it "would be nice to have a consistent supply of this stuff." (Your words in italics not mine.)

Why would anyone want to ruin e-juice that tastes pretty good and is made from all FDA approved ingredients just to make it taste better is beyond me! Nicotine has NOT BEEN PROVEN to cause cancer. It has been PROVEN to be a little bad for your heart. But if you smoke cigarettes and get ALL THE ALKALOIDS and extras that cigarettes have to offer, we all know our chances of getting cancer are pretty good.

THERE IS ZERO SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION REGARDING THE USE or CONSUMPTION OF WTA! You could however listen to the charlatans and "JUST DRINK THE KOOL-AID!"

I mean stop and think about it for a minute...

Someday someone will do a study on the effects of WTA. What happens when they find out it causes cancer? I can read the headlines now: SOME E-CIG USERS ADD CANCER CAUSING INGREDIENTS BACK INTO THEIR SAFE E-JUICE BECAUSE IT TASTES GOOD!

That sir, will be the end of DIY juice making!

Think I'm wrong? When was the last time you heard of someone making their own hard liquor? That's because it is against Federal Law for an individual to manufacture it without a license. You could go down to your corner grocery store and buy all the ingredients, but if you assemble them together to make hard liquor you could end up in prison for a long long time.

Okay...Enough of the ranting and raving!
I'm getting off the soapbox now and we can return to regular programming.

If you really, really, really need your WTA, step outside and have a cigarette or...
If you prefer to have a liquid cigarette...
Look on vendors websites. Some of them will say they use a tobacco extraction process to create their juice. Even worse, some DON'T tell you they are putting WTA in their juice! Buyer beware!

Most of the vendors using either tobacco extraction or WTA are newer vendors from what I understand. Most have opened in just the last year. Some are mentioned all over the ECF. THEY REALLY DO HAVE SOME OF THE BEST TASTING JUICE AVAILABLE!

No sir, I'm not naming names here. If you really need to know, PM me and I will give you a name or two. And yes, I have tried their juice, and yes, it really is good.

I agree the house extracted tobaccos taste better to me than any tobacco imitating or tobacco essence flavor that I have tried to date made by me or anyone else. I am happy however that others are having success and are and sharing recipe ideas and experiences/opinions here.

The FDA approved cigarettes and look whats in them. Just saying....

Pete, you are right in one aspect, there are two camps. One that believes e-cigs are safe and one that believes they are a safer alternative to analogs. I don’t for one second believe that the FDA has approved anything regarding the e-cig. Yes, the ingredients are FDA approved for other things but not for all day inhalation. I could be wrong but it is my understanding that WTA’s are not what is known to cause cancer but the combustion of other chemicals found in analogs is the real culprit. I was never fooled into thinking analogs were safe and I won’t be fooled into thinking e-cigs are either.

What would you do if one day you wake up and the FDA says PG or VG or a Flavor or some chemical used to extract nicotine causes cancer? I would keep sucking on my E-Power with a dual carto filled with nicotine and WTA. Be honest

If WTA’s are what it takes to keep me from smoking analogs, I won’t hesitate.

BTW – I am not looking to purchase someone’s kitchen brew, I can and do make my own.

Speaking of kitchen brew. I tried extracting some flavoring from a few pouches of Marlboro Red Snus. Have heard about, and read about this on ECF. It is pretty easy. But the extraction made me feel woozy. Like I just smoked a cigarette. I have been vaping for a little over 1 year. But I did not completely quit smoking till about 3 months ago. Just a few drops of that snus extract was too much for me, in a 3ml tank of a 18mg nic juice. Crazy, huh? I have tried quite a few tobacco juices. Most taste nasty to me. I do have a nice recipe that I just recently made, it just may be my all day vape for awhile. Made in the Ejuice Me Up calculator. Enjoy. Light on flavor, because my taste buds cannot stand strong flavors. I usually vape this at about 4.2 on my Provari, in a homemade syringe carto tank. :vapor:

Sugar Cookie 10 ml @14mg 70PG/30VG
100 mg nic juice pg 1.4 ml or 28 drops
PG 4.6 ml or 92 Drops
VG 2.8 ml or 56 Drops
DIY Flavorshack Sugar Cookie Flavoring 6% .6ml or 12 drops
Sweetener 4% .4 ml or 4 drops
Vanillian TPA 2% .2ml or 2 drops

As others have aid, this speeds up the steeping process. Especially when using VG blends.

I also wanted to evaporate off the alcohol that is in the Tobacco Blend Alc flavoring. Took that perfumy flavor out of this juice.

I did make a batch of this for myself, and a friend, and was in a hurry and didnt cook it. Just wasn't a good, though to be fair, it only steeped for a day.

Indeed. I am still smoking (about half of what I used to), and haven't really found my perfect vape yet. But I am sure that if I am ever to totally stop inhaling combustion products, I need to get my hands on some WTA to add to my liquid.

And even more than that, if I will ever be able to interest my mother (soon 70, asthmatic) in switching even some of her tobacco consumption to vaping, there needs to be some WPA in her juice. Because every nicotine-replacement she has tried so far has done nothing to dampen her "appetite" for smoked tobacco - as she said yesterday when we discussed it as I showed off my new flashy gear (clearomizer and silvery boge cartomizer), every time she has tried something like that she has still felt the craving for a cigarette, smoked, and ended up feeling a bit ill from getting too much nicotine.

So making or buying some WTA is high on my list of things to try.

I agree that it is totally foolish for someone for whom nicotine replacement (or just the act of vaping) is enough to keep them from inhaling smoke to toy with this, but for some of us just nicotine and a good taste isn't enough. And I'd much rather get it all in my future perfect vape than fool around with snus.

On tobacco blend, you can also get it suspended in PG. I get the alc variant because I mix some things for people who don't tolerate PG.

If you don't want to actively cook your flavorings, just leaving them uncapped overnight can help, as the alcohol evaporates. It's slower, but easy to do.

I could use a bit of that... now if someone would just sell me a bottle of good wooze joose!

I made some "kitchen brew" but I think it came out with too much citric acid, tends to irritate the back of my throat. And the vapor gives a smoldering paper room note. It did make me sink down into my chair though, very relaxing.

This thread has over 1700 views and we have slightly over 10 tobacco recipes. Here's a bump hoping that some of the "seasoned" DIY'ers jump in with some Christmas cheer and share their tobacco successes with us. :) This is probably the most sought after area of DIY'ing and so little information. Either the ones who "arrive" don't want to share or we're stuck with hours of mixing, tasting, tweaking and for me......dumping, repeat. There just has to be some secrets out there that someone is willing to share. PLEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
