I thought the same thing... I remember back in the day if we wanted to send something to a friend we would put their address in the sender's spot... and intentionally not put postage on it :D.... well we were in the same city and they were only letters... but still :D

that's good to know info

lgd, thanks for starting my day by making me smile!!!
how devious can you get, lol:)
that trick probably probably was the beginning of the end for usps and their evergrowing deficit:facepalm:

Here's the info I got from my post office. (it's been an ongoing learning lesson)

There are 3 weight classes for the 'small' package.
For simplicity sake, let's call them small, medium, and large.

Small= regular flat envelope
Med= thick envelope under 1/4 inches thick
Large= package, over 1/4 thick

(these all are uniformly the same thickness. If an envie is NOT uniform in thickness, there is an additional charge of 20 cents)

the following prices are for under the ounces listed

>1oz
sm= .44
m= .88
L= 1.22

>2oz
m= 1.05
L=1.39

>3oz
m= 1.22
L= 1.56

>4oz
m= 1.39
L= 1.73

>5oz
m= 1.56
L= 1.90

etc, etc.

Don't forget! If it's not uniform in thickness, add 20 cents. If it's not the correct shape, add another stamp. If it's non-machineable for any reason (fragile, etc) add 20 cents.

Most things weigh less than what we think, however, they get us on all the details (shape, size, etc) all that costs additional $.

I picked up a cheap scale in the food storage section at WallyWorld. It gives the ounces.

Still, I will sometimes stll take them to the PO to verify (so if I'm one of the culprits, PLMK!!!) My post office is nice, and will often try and slip my packages into the lower category.. I'd hate to think anyone is getting charged for this reason!

Really near the mexican border.
I did get one package from the needs thread; that needed postage due (.51), but I just paid it; I felt lucky enough to get this package that I just paid it. I always have some one go to the postoffice to mail for me, so I hope that doesn't happen from me. But if it does for some reason, Please PM me and I will send it to you via paypal or I will send something else that I have to fix it.

Too funny, I just got one a few minutes ago that was 34 cents light on the postage. Mailman left an envelope with amount due. :)

That right there is why all my stuff goes to the PO to be mailed. That way I am sure no one is paying anything for it. Kind of defeats the purpose of PIF if someone in the same rotten physical shape I'm in has to get up, get out and go to the post office then pay money to get what I'm sending them. It might take a day or two for me to get someone to take it there for me, but at least I have the peace of mind knowing that my PIF isn't costing anyone any pain or money.

but notice they don't say a word or offer the difference to anybody if it's a case of OVER PAYING

Hah. Put the money in an envelope, tape it to your mailbox and write "POSTAGE DUE" on it, then tape his note below that. If he doesn't take it - His fault. Don't go out of your way to rush them 20 :censored: cents.

I hope it wasn't mine! If it was, let me know and I will get you something! And ditto for me - if anyone receives a package from me and they have to pay for postage, let me know. I always weigh them and use the package rate on USPS.

I can also print postage from Paypal, but it is sometimes so much easier just to slap some stamps on it, since my husband is always at the computer where our printer is.
