Wow that's a great idea! I have one of those isi canisters lying around for making whipped brain every once in a while, if you catch my drift

But it makes sense that increased pressure speed diffusion of flavours into solution, I'm sure CO2 would work the same. And you don't have to waste good N2O. I think this would be more effective pushing flavour into less-viscous liquids(ie not VG or PG), so using EtOH as a flavour holder which you can then concentrate and add to e-juice might be the ideal process.

I don't even have an e-cig yet, but rest assured when I finally make up my mind about suppliers i'll be all back up in this thread with some results.

In fact this might have applications in higher-level nicotine extractions, like forcing it to crystallize out of solution!!! I might just try this someday, as much as I hate the thought of ruining my inter-dimensional walkie-talkie

The article cautions about CO2 diffusing into the final product and ruining the flavor as that's why they don't use it for whipped cream. But I don't see why you couldn't rinse the tank out when you're done, your not firing your final product through the valve. In the video, they just let the pressure off then open it and pour.

If I were using the isi for nicotine extraction I would likely be exposing the interior to kerosene, naphtha and HCl. I would never ever even think of using the isi for any food application after that.
Flavour extraction is a different and less carcinogenic story obviously, and i will likely be trying that sometime soon. If not for e-juice then to add some kick to boring old tanqueray.

And the CO2 diffusion is only an issue if whatever you're inoculating with flavour has a high water content, as the CO2 and water react to form bitter carbonate ions under high pressure. That being said, just like soda if you leave it out in the open for long enough the carbonic acid will dissociate back into CO2 and H2O. CO2 carts are also 5x cheaper then N2O where I live so the tradeoff of waiting a day or 2 is likely worth it.
The carbonic acid might screw with complex blends of flavour too, which would be no good. Again, using high-purity grain alcohol (or anything that isn't water) would likely prevent carbonate formation

Food grade nitrous cartridges leave a nasty grease residue in the chargers. Some people might not want to inhale that. I think ISI was the only one tested that didnt leave much of a residue.

Yeah, I am NOT trying nic extraction. Flavor is what I'm after. Even everclear has water in it even if it's not much. If you try it, please post the results as will I when I get some time. A little acidity might even be good from the reading I've been doing. There are websites that have tested the residue left over from the nitrous for inhalation purposes, I'm purposely treading lightly there due to forum rules, but it's a quick Google away and well tested. CO2 IS easy to source as most sporting good stores carry it. Nitrous, due to it's sometimes dubious use, is hard to find around here. Even the gourmet store who carries the actual Isi maker by me told me to look elsewhere to find the chargers and pointed me to a store that sells "tobacco novelties;-) " when I asked about it.
