Just been at this vaping thing for two weeks and it is a blast. Part of the fun is reading all of the posts on different options and opinions on both juice and equipment. I am kind of fascinated with the equipment. Started with an Ego kit, then got cartomizers to fit it, then went to Boge 2.0 cartomizers and liked them but I drive a lot and couldn't fill the carts while driving so I got a cartomizer tank. The ecig is only a couple of pieces but there are so many variables with the batteries and tanks and cartomizers and high voltage and low resistance and that doesn't even touch on the different juices and different vendors. What is excellent is that all of the information is in these forums, I just have to find and understand it. I have a lot of research to do but I think I will be an equipment junkie just waiting on the next big improvement. Looks like this industry is starting to pick up steam and innovations will start happening pretty fast. New today and obsolete next month could be a problem for the budget unless I settle on a system. Anyway, this looks to be a long term "hobby" and it is at least no more expensive than analogs and not as bad for the health.

One thing I haven't quite figured out is the resistance of the atomizer in relation to the battery. I understand how the bigger batter will last longer and I understand the lower resistance atomizer getting hotter, which is kind of what I am after since I like the good throat hit and warm vapor but why the higher resistance atomizers with the higher voltage? Not sure what it accomplishes. Seems like the same thing would happen with lower voltage and lower resistance but longer battery life. What is the benefit of higher voltage and higher resistance. I am sure it is here somewhere in this forum and I will find it but that hasn't made sense to me yet. Everything else is falling into place but the elctrical part of it. Thanks for the welcome.

Explains everything quite nicely here:

I know exactly what you mean sandscards. I'm still really new to vaping myself and only have an RN4081 but I can see myself really getting into the hardware/electronics/modding side of things. Of course I was really into electronics long before I knew about vaping so I can't say I'm suprised. Also, thanks to Piercetor for posting that link. Even knowing electrical theory coming into this it helped get things into perspective.

You need to step up to a mod which will take you to a whole new level of vaping. There are tons to choose from...all mechanical to variable voltage. It just depends on something that sparks your interest. Me...I like 6V vaping with a dual coil atomizer or dual coil cartomizer...it depends if I feel like dripping or not. There are even bottom feeders if you're someone that hates to constantly top off. There's a slew of them also.

Welcome to ECF and the wonderful world of hoarding...I mean vaping.

Vaping sure had taught me a lot about electricity. I didn't realize quitting smoking would teach me ohm's law and watt's law! And then there's all the new stuff to drool over and potentially hoard! I was happy with a Roughstack and a Maxi Roughstack for months, then in the last week bought a used Silver Bullet on the classifieds here and a Copperwood acrylic tube at Madvapes. Even when you're happy with your equipment and juice, in a moment of weakness/desire it's easy to pull the trigger! Better to get variety and have fun than pick up a pack of our previous addiction!

Heck, each of my new mods cost about as much as a carton of smokes. That's the rationalization we get to use over and over... Welcome to ECF. Our mantra should be: "It's not hoarding, it's a hobby!"

Already been there. Getting harder and harder to convince the wife that I am saving money. I may have to change tactics and tell her it is healtheir but it is also a hobby. Right now I am pretty deep in the whole over what the analog cost would have been and figured I could average it out over a couple of months of just juice cost and get back ahead. Looks like that might not happen or I might be well in to 2013 or more to break even. Kind of depends on what new mods they come out with and what I experiment with and find I like. I can tell I am leaning towards a higher voltage battery with a tank. Thanks for everyones help. It is starting to come together a little and I am starting to understand the desire for variable voltage on your battery to find tune the heat generated by the coil. I am old and sometimes takes things a little time to settle into my brain where they make sense. Main thing is I am having a ball and not smoking cigarettes. That is a win!

I am in the hole a ways to on cost. In my head I got an Ego starter kit and some juices and figured $100 in and it would last me a while. 15 days without analogs and figured I would be even and then starting to get ahead money wise. A short time later I couldn't figure out all the talk about different ohms and cartos and I just had to have some. Then all of the juice and different vendors, I needed to experiment. Then I found tanks and wouldn't have to refill cartos all the time and I figured, OK that is it. I am set now. Unfortunately, I wandered over into the vv forum and started hearing stories about these other boxes and things that make it even better. Then I found the classifieds and boy has it been fun. I am now not going to break even until over two months off of analogs and I have a sneaky feeling it might be longer than that. The urge to buy new stuff is now greater than the desire for an analog. In one way that is good but is not the reason at all I started down this road. Good news is totally analog free two weeks so I guess it is working and it is fun and I have had an excellent review on Ohm's law that I now understand.

I'm somewhat fortunate that my budget simply doesn't allow for hoarding...despite what I used to spend on cigarettes ($400/mo for 2 people.) I spent quite a bit in the first 6mos..well over a grand I suppose (still less than smoking) and after almost 3 years I would have spent about $12,400 on cigarettes. I'm pretty sure that I haven't even come close to 1/2 that with ecig purchases.

I keep eyeballing that dang Katana mod with the Genesis atty though and my tax return is burning a hole in my pocket.

Hello, my name is Tim and I'm a gadget junkie.

Group Reply' "Hello Tim.

Though a neophyte with tons to learn, I can all ready see where this is going to lead.

The hr in my user name stands for Hot Rod.
I have a sickness that won't let me leave mechanical, electro-mechanical, electric, and maybe even atomic, if I found something powered that way, alone.

I once hotrodded a tape measure to win a board race. Sick, sick, very sick.

I'm worried that I'm going to wind up with a backpack that weighs 30lbs, holds a gallon or so of juice and has enough power to jump start a bulldozer.

I will be able to lay down a smoke screen of vapor to hide troop movements.

Don't worry about making vaping a hobby. It will be fun. And if you compare it to most other hobbies and smoking (ugh), it's really not that expensive.

Who knows maybe we will, through experimentation, come up with a quantum leap in how we vape.

Welcome to the wonderfully diverse world of ECF.
