Locally, an automobile accident at an intersection caused a vehicle to run into the gas pumps at a local station. There was no explosion or fire. While gasoline fumes can be explosive in an enclosed container and are flammable, the dilution of the fumes with air significantly decreases the likelihood of fire, even while pumping gas. I have dropped a lit cigarette (analog) directly into a container of high octane gas and the stinky was snuffed.

Y'all don't have to browbeat someone for vaping while pumping gas. It's an argument without much grounds. Has there EVER been a case of a gas explosion due to an e-cig?

As for the topic of the OP, I get a sideways glance on occaision a lot of places. It's mostly curiosity and/or ignorance.

Just because there hasn't been one, doesn't mean its not possible.

I always get mine at smokers shelters as I still use mine outside a lot. A cigarette break is meant to be just that! A break! So when I Vape outside and get questioned as to why I'm outside when I can use it indoors, I always say, 'heck, same habit different ingredients'

My dad did the same thing when he was in his twenties and when he bent over to look at it the bucket of gas exploded in his face. He was lucky he only had first degree burns and they healed very well. True story. My moms stepdad told her my father was dead and she cried for a week before my dad was released from the hospital. Only thing he could figure was that the liquid gas didnt immediately put the cigarette out and just enough wind hit it causing it to flare, igniting the gasoline vapors.

Doesnt matter if the likelihood of igniting gas with an e-cigarette is high or not.You shouldnt be taking chances like that especially when the repercussions from it could affect us all. Better safe than sorry or worse.

Cell phones cannot cause a spark to ignite gas fumes...been proven many times over. A spark from static electricity can ignite gas fumes...again has been proven. Some mechanical mods do arc when they are used, on my Chameleon it is very obvious. Could the arc spark ignite gas fumes? Yes it could.

Personally my habit isn't so bad that I feel the need to vape while gassing up the car. Also starting the pump and then getting back in the car and out again can build up static electricity sufficient to ignite fumes when your hand touches the metal pump handle. This was the basis for the cell phone myth.

I got a few funny looks while shopping at Costco yesterda. Truth be told, I usually don't vape while I'm shopping, etc...but this was a good 3 hour excursion to Costco...new glasses, new smart phones for the wife and I and then general shopping. I hit the 1 hr or so mark and just said, "screw it, I'm vaping." Most of the looks seemed to be more curiosity oriented...they could see what appeared to be smoke coming from my mouth and nose...and then poof, it was gone...and no smell. I could tell that a few people wanted to come up to me and tell me I couldn't smoke...but by the time they started to make their move, the vapor was gone and they had that, "what the hell" look on their faces. Kind of like being a magician!

    It only takes once.

I too have flipped a lit cigarette into a drain pan, that's a lot different than holding that cigarette in the fumes. People that work with that kind of stuff know what you can and can't do, don't expect the average Joe to know the difference. (remember the Pinto brake lights in a crash? The Chevy PU gas tanks in a side collision?)

I think everyone should look in the mirror while vaping. Seriously. If your going to vape in public and want to promote healthy habits that are fun it's a good idea you don't look like freak. I watched myself vape after seeing a few video reviews that left me cold watching them. Ya know? Mainly I think right in the middle of the lips sticking straight out is silly looking. Getting lost in producing the best vaper throat hit is a little weird too. Kind of like when you really watch some people eat their meals. Some people make it look good and others should do it in private. Just my thought. Tis e cig stuff is not going away. All input is good
