Hi Meggers. :D

You would think that Popeye and the bunch would've wisened up to Wimpy after a while. They weren't the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.

 No they were not. Well...look at who Popeye dated! Olive! There wasn't much to her. Way too skinny!

I looked at it Tibby. Depends on the nature of the failure. Like all things it seems, there's exceptions (and a wiki... SpinRite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

However, if a hard drive's circuit board, drive motors or other mechanical parts are defective, or there is systemic file system corruption, SpinRite may be of little or no help.[3]

So a mechanical failure (drive spindle/bearing failing) it won't help. It will try real hard though. May be worth it. However, it isn't free. There's public domain stuff to do the same thing freely (maybe as well?). Per the wiki:
Though there are many commercial and freeware file recovery programs available, besides SpinRite only the HDD Regenerator offers direct hardware-level access to the disk, while others are more suitable for recovery of deleted and corrupted files and formatted drives. Some are intended to recover only accidentally deleted files (e.g., FreeUndelete). Others will recover files of certain types, using knowledge of the file structure (e.g., GetData's Recover My Files).

Hey Tibs, PM me with what's going on. I may be able to help. Or I can message you my number and try to see what the best option would be.

Well, if you do that... listen to the drive over the phone. Let us know if its a bearing or head squeal type of thing, huh?

Tibby... it's probably good software and a good company. It just depends on the exact problem as to if it can help.

I don't know what the exact problem is. Did you try to clone it with that software I mentioned? Did it work? It will try hard to read a sector too. Can use a USB flash drive to boot also.

Do you hear a high-pitched whine when the drive is spinning?
