Precision oiler question

Someone (I think it was Elendil) mentioned in another thread that the needle on the precision oiler bottle could be shortened. I was just wondering how to do that without crimping it. Isn't it just a hollow tube? I'm so mechanically challenged.

You guys probably already know this but I just discovered that you can pop the top off the juice bottles and screw the oiler top right on. The threads match fine and I haven't seen any leaking. They are a little clumsy to fit in my little carrying case unless the needle could be shortened a bit.

Thanks, Elendil. It sounds like a job best left to my partner. I'd hate to ruin one since they aren't cheap. Have you tried it with success? How short could you make it, just long enought to fit to the bottom of a cart?
