ultimate willpower is obviously the best option. though, sometimes we have to be forgiving, realistic and understanding of the person going through it. my wife quit cold turkey for 2 out of our 3. on our last one, she just couldn't hack it. (no pun intended)

though she cut back, she never really did cut them completely out for our little guy. i would have definitely rather we'd known then what we know now about e-cigs. i think (not a doctor or scientist, mind you) it would have definitely been a better alternative than the cigs.

Please speak openly and honestly with your prenatal doctor ASAP...

I doubt there's been any studies with e-cigarette usage during pregnancy... But there have been a number of studies involving NRT's (Nicotine gum/patches) which I believe would be more closely aligned with e-cigarette usage for nicotine absorption during pregnancy.

Quick google search turned up this study info for NRT's... While nicotine replacement therapy during pregnancy...

Nicotine is not generally recommended during pregnancy, but some doctors will say it's ok if it keeps you from smoking.

I would say if she needs something, see if she's ok vaping 0mg. But if she's desperate for a cigarette and can't help herself, it's far better for her to vape nicotine than smoke it!

Please talk to your doctor about this. And no matter what, make sure she stays away from cigarettes as much as possible!

That is an interesting read zahzoo :thumb:. I thought nicotine had more of an affect on pregnancy than what that data suggests.

I was 6 months pregnant a year ago today. Luckily for me, the smell of cigarettes made me sick when I was pregnant so it was easy to quit. Personally, if that were not the case, I would have switched to vaping in order to (quickly) taper off. Nicotine itself is harmful to babies. Period. But if vaping helps her quit, a short stint of it might be OK. But the focus would be to pretty quickly lower nicotine contents to 0.

I smoked through all three of my pregnancies. I even smoked on the way to the hospital. Hell, back then we were allowed to smoke in the hospital room. I even had the occasional glass of wine. 8-o

All my kids turned out exceptionally intelligent. None were born premature or underweight. I think the public has been conditioned to think that pregnant women should be pure as the driven snow, and that's not going to happen. I also think that the government PR has has made a stretch to correlate smoking with low birth weight and/or defects.

My mother never smoked, but the meds she took while pregnant with me - that were FDA approved - left me with a permanent scar on my face from a tumor and malformed reproductive organs. I should never been able to carry children but I had three healthy babies.

I guess my point is that I understand being cautious while pregnant, but don't get so hung up on being perfect. The baby will most likely have no issues as a result of the mother vaping while pregnant.

My wife is a heavy smoker. 15+ cigarettes a day. Now she's pregnant, just found out today and now she has to quit and is afraid of having to quit. She will do it for the health of the baby but I want to help her out and buy her an APV, she doesn't trusts them, and I recently just purchased my personal kit but still hasn't arrived.

Now. I am looking on the web and I get no concrete answer. So if any of you know something about it please share.

Do you know if there's any consequence? Or is it really safe to Vape while pregnant?

Thanks:)

Not sure 15 smokes a day is heavy, but I'll say this; my mother was a smoker while I was in the oven, I turned out a little under weight but otherwise okay. Vaping like any other chemical delivery system should be avoided while pregnant just to be on the safe side of things.

I'm certain vaping is safer than cigarettes. So don't frett too much.

The judgment received while being pregnant these days is the worst! I'd have an occasional glass of wine while pregnant, heck I'd have a beer sometimes (I usually wouldn't finish it but hey, a few sips was nice). I got the dirtiest looks and some really rude comments. I remember picking up a 6 pack at the store and felt obligated to explain to the drunken bar-goer next to me that I'd only have a few sips or so and the rest was for my boyfriend (not that it was his business, but he was giving me dirty looks) and he said "If my girlfriend was pregnant, I'd never let her drink alcohol". I hated getting the judgmental comments, especially from men! Fortunately my son's father wasn't a jerk about it, he knew I wasn't getting drunk or anything.

Years ago, Thalidamide (if I recall) and DES were commonly administered by doctors during pregnancy, and I think we know very well how these turned out. If you need details, just do a search on these drugs / terms.

I'm not a doctor, but I tend to agree with the poster above about expecting human mothers to be 'pure as the driven snow' is a very big expectation.
Considering how many mothers had smoked during pregnancy in the past, and the few ingredients in ejuice, with low or no nicotine, I would be very alarmed if these had any effect at all on the human fetus.

Dood, my mama smokd like a train (LOL just like mi neme) nd drunked like a fishy, I only poo myseff onc a day nauw and 1+1=3 see, iz gud at mths 2, sew their cee, itz safe yo.

On a serious note: kids are a wonderful thing give them as a strong foundation to grow upon as you can possibly muster, you'll be glad you did once they reach their teens. Because after that all bets are off.

Yes! DES was the drug given to my mother.
