Feeling stressed, took a vape at a meeting with my accountant, and was asked to stop; she was worried about 'passive vaping', presumably having read a WHO report on a German Study of the dangers of 'passive vaping' posted on the BBC and other news sites. (which looking at it, the interpretation of 'harm' from very low levels of contaminants, looked like a load of scaremongering, not backed up by the actual results). But now this report and its coverage on major news sites means many among a misinformed public now look on vaping as just as dangerous as smoking.

She wanted to ask her boss if they had a 'policy' on vaping in the office. I said don't bother, if you don't like it, I respect that, I'll just go out into the corridor. Funny how people look to policies and laws to justify themselves. It's her space, so down to her, no problem for me, not a matter for policies or laws. Enough said? :)

I am not sure if I can vape in my office so I will do it early in the mornign and blow it under my desk. As for the prejudice, I have told a few friends/coworkers that I started vaping and stopped smoking and they insist that I am still smoking and it is just as bad for you. It really ...... me off because no matter how many times I try to educate them they just go back to the "it is the same as smoking, you just replaced one bad habit with another". Maybe one day the layman will become more educated....

Here's for hoping. I suspect that vapers will end up being just as marginalised as smokers. Shame as it is much safer for all concerned.

find the biggest danger of passive vaping, is getting so enthralled with me gear, they have to go out and buy their own. :D Yeah, mod envy, is the biggest hazard of passive vaping. First time I saw an SVD, made me go out and buy a Provari 2.5. Crap, and the passive vape damage hasn't stopped there. It's lead to the way of the rba, collection gathering, mech and high amp regs, DIY juice, wire and fiber hording, where will it end. Yeah, should of kicked the MBV crew off the dice table and out of the casino.

mod envypassive vape, it's vaporous.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!!!

I get that from my own wife. She's always researching things and what she finds and believes are these so-called studies reporting the negative aspects of vaping. When I show her other studies, she's convinced that they are just vaping sites putting out what they want to justify vaping. Very frustrating, indeed.

Opposite experience. My husbands family of non-smokers is absolutely fascinated with us vaping, and even asks to try it. Very strange. Needless to say, they are all super happy we quit tobacco.

My extended family... Well they are a bunch of smokers so They are a bit curious but also still firmly in the tobacco camp, so there's a bit of prejudice from that side ... "Smoke a real cigarette will ya *laughter*"....

I'm pretty sure the same person would not react the same way if you came to your meeting with the flu or a cold. The chance of such a case would definitely affect other people around you in a more immediate way of others getting whatever it is you're bringing to the meeting.

But, if you did show up to a meeting while you're sick you would not be looked down upon, on the contrary, you would be given a badge of honor for showing up and not staying home.

Most people just don't use their common sense, if they have any.

Love the folks who worry about second-hand smoke and passive vapor then blow clouds with their cars and drive away.

Some things are easily avoidabel, some - not.
America cannot survive without car; it can survive without second-hand smoking and vaping easily.

Its too bad it can survive without listening to other people wishes.

I have this same experience with a few of my friends who have never smoked a cig, they always smell a new flavor and look at me asking for a couple puffs :vapor:

I believe if we want to ease this stigma we are living with, the term electronic CIGARETTE has to go. APV or just personal vaporizing device is much better. Just the association of the C word is giving the uneducated the wrong impression. I have the freedom to vape in my office, but it does cause some unrest with the people who thought they had finally BEAT the smokers through one sided legislation. I do my best to educate them and for them to try to convince smokers they may know, who just can't quit, to convert to vapeing. I don't jam my vapeing in a non-vapers face, but don't I have rights too! C'mon people.

To me, the OP's experience was no different than if she had asked him/her to stop eating in her office. As was said - her space, her rules (within reason).

Let's face it, vaping, while proved more and more every day to be healthier than combusting tobacco, is still unnatural. It works for us because it replaces (i.e., mimics) smoking, but to the never-smoked masses, it's still very foreign. Add to this society's (conditioned?) reflex to accept negative outcomes ("I knew there was something suspicious about that <smiles to self>") rather than actually understand them and you get the current tone and tenor. In fact, people are so happy to have found a negative aspect (perceived, spun, or otherwise obtained) that they will cross a room to tell a stranger that they are in the wrong. It actually makes them feel better.

In my book, that beats trying to justify something (vaping in someone's personal space without asking permission), simply because you "felt" like doing it. How rude.

Rude? Yes, maybe should have asked first. The vaping etiquette is new to me.

The thing is, should we need to ask if the vapour is harmless?

She equated vaping with smoking. They are not the same thing.
