I got some wire and wick, but my kayfun is still on the way, so I wanted to practice building coils before it gets here.

How does this look...

I used a variable drill to wind it.

Pretty sweet.

I recommend cotton. $6 cvs sterile rolled cotton- lifetime supply. Practice with some water..or flavorless vg&pg..and cotton. Get it to where it's just enough to fill coil, but doesn't cause swelling on the sides of the coil.

Thanks.

I plan on trying silica and cotton until I find what works best for me.

That coil looks excellent! If that is your first coil build, WELL DONE! Now you just need to prepare your taste buds for the flavor explosion the KFL will deliver if this is your first KFL type device!

Thank you.

This is my first time building coils, and my first rebuildable too. I went for the KFLP because of all the reviews seem to be very good. I watched many of the YouTube vids on how different people build their coils. I worked in industrial engineering for many many years so I'm very mechanically inclined.

This was just a practice coil while I am waiting for my KFLP to get here (I think it is being delivered tomorrow...:) ), and my hope is that it will be at least as consistant as cartos once I get the builds consistant.

From what I have seen on YouTube, it looks to be very easy to get a good build, and a very good consistant vape as well. I'm going to experiment with different wicking and wire until I find the best combo for me.

Thanks again.

It's a nice looking coil, but probably way to many wraps, especially if that's 32 gauge wire. I suspect the resistance of that coil will be very high.

Also, ditch the silica and wick it with cotton. :)

Sent from my recliner with a spatula

Thanks.

It's only a practice one. I was not concerned about the number of wraps as I was about the quality of the wraps. I just wanted to find a way to get nice even wraps.

The wire is 30 guage, but I plan on trying some others as well as cotton.

Coil building skills do come into play, but I seem ot have to concentrate more on getting the wick set properly. So far 3 of 4 builds have turned excellent. One had to little wick and immediately went into flood mode. Mad panic to get the top off and syringe the e-liquid out before loosing it all. 5 minutes later, rewicked and vaping like a champ.:)

So, did you do a looped pull through and then clip the ends?
Turned out nice looking.:2cool:

I'm waiting for a KFL clone to show up this week as a replacement for the first one I received which was DOA due to an air flow screw that was permanently stuck in the base. It's been taunting me on my counter for a month.

So in the meantime, I picked up a Rocket (kayfun style) to play with before the KFL showed up. For that I built a 3/32" contact coil (microcoil if you like) using 28 gauge wire, 7 wraps, which put me @ 1.1Ω. Great for a mech, but also useable on my wife's MVP2. I've found it easiest to let the coil sit diagonally across the airhole, which is the natural way it will set on there when attaching it to the screws. No need to bend the coil legs this way, and it also angles the coil nicely to position the cotton down to the liquid channels.

Wicking it with cotton has been fairly easy, but found it's very important not to choke the coil with it. It should slide through easily without bunching up as you pull it through, but also needs to fully fill the coil. The "less is more" rule with cotton seems to really apply with these.

Thanks. I just folded the wick ove a peice of wire, fished the wire through the coil, and pulled the wick through with the wire.

I cant wait till it gets here so I can start tinkering...:)

Hope your new one shows up with no issues.

If it's anything like the Squape I've been tinkering with, I'll give you a tip: When you get something in there that works well for you, STOP, leave it alone, and use it until it actually needs to be rebuilt or re-wicked. Otherwise, you'll end up spending more time tinkering than vaping. ;)

Did u figure out how to get the airflow screw un stuck. I have the same issue. Now it seems stripped and I can't get the airflow screw out.
