I'm not sure if this is the place for this thread(sorry admins)

So back in 2010 when I first started vaping, I was in heaven. But where my family was concerned, I often at times would avoid them when vaping. A lot of them are smokers, heavy smokers at that, and I would get made fun of when I was around. Called names and so on. It was like I was the odd family member who dives into some random obsession and or cult and they would just shrug me off, avoid talking to me, ect.
Long story short life happened and I derailed till recently.

I'm waiting on my new mod to come in the mail hopefully Saturday, and I'm afraid it's going to be the same thing over again. Has anyone experienced this from family/friends? Any way to help stop the verbal backlash so to speak? I'm the only provaper in the family so I stick out like some sore thumb and I have no clue how to fix this, or if I'm just nuts and am the only one?

At first, my friends/co-workers laughed at me.. but they knew my smoking habit and thought I would be right back at it.. I didn't go back and by the time I left that area, I had all the other smokers switched over.. Last Laughs!!

Bull through it. You know it's better than what they are doing, and it's for You.. not them..

I fortunately being capable of being the big BULLY on the block don't get this problem, People know I have a short Irish temper and jail don't scare me neither. Us Irishman veterans talk with our fists more then our mouths. If I so much as spot another Vaperer with less physical talents then I getting flack I will come to the rescue. This explains why I have had 3 heart attacks and one stroke already.

Who cares what they think? You're doing this for YOU. Not for THEM.

IMHO, you have two approaches, either just laugh it off and they'll get bored -- or be direct, tell them that while you understand making fun of the unknown, that you are trying your best to quit smoking and this is a great healthier alternative and you'd appreciate the conversation going elsewhere. You could also perhaps just keep changing the subject?

Good luck. ((HUGS))

Let them call you names. Let them make fun of you. Then you can smile at the smokers and say "Yeah, but you're coughing and I'm not. You smell and I don't!"

What you're doing, you're doing for YOU. If people don't approve of what you're doing or if they make fun of it, that's THEIR problem. Be proud of what you've accomplished. It's really a shame that your family isn't more supportive. I come from a family like that and learned I'm my own best supporter. So support YOURSELF! And come to ECF and we'll support you!

Keep calm and vape on! :vapor:

I agree with what was said above, but remebember thatpersonal vaporizers (e-cigs) are a bit more common place now than 3 years a go. I bought my first vaporizer in 2009, and didn't know anyone else who had one. I now know several people who use them (admittedly because of me, but still), and just went to my first gathering of other vapers, which had approximately 50 attendees in a NOT big town. Either way, follow your own path and don't worry about what they think. You are truly doing it for you, not them...
