The federal Housing and Urban Development rule banning smoking takes effect July 31, 2018. It will prohibit cigarettes, cigars, pipes and hookahs from being smoked in all living units, indoor common areas, administrative offices and outdoor areas within 25 feet of housing units. HUD has left e-cigs up to each local public housing authority and many are choosing to include them in this ban.
