Problem with Aspire Nautilus

I've been vaping off and on around a year now. I say off and on because I got tired of not getting the performance I wanted from plug and play devices, and I hate to say it but switched back to analogs for awhile. I recently got back into vaping as I cant stand smoking, and heard nothing but great things about the new Aspire Nautilus, so I was super excited to buy it and see if it would give me the performance that I'm looking for. So far, I'm not happy at all with it... Both coils that came with my Nautilus are giving me a burnt/off taste after just one tank full, and this is vaping them at 3.4-3.6 volts. I figured this is a low voltage setting for a dual coil and I wouldnt be having this issue... I dont want to go back to analogs but I may have to now as both heads that came with it are junk. I'm weary of buying more replacement heads for it just to get that burnt taste again after spending $18 for a pack of 5. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? This is my first post on ECF, and help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what's going on with yours -- I guess it's possible you got a bad unit. I got mine earlier today and I couldn't be happier. This thing has been perfect. The juices I received via vapemail this morning taste great. I've had no burnt taste at all. It's surprising to me because the way it comes packaged only requires you to screw off the bottom, fill with juice, screw it back together and vape.

Try another brand topper -- do anything except return to the analogs. Don't give up. Take it apart, clean it up and try again. If that doesn't work -- try it again. Maybe after filling it up you might let it sit for awhile to give the coil time to saturate with juice. Going back to analogs shouldn't be an option. Keep trying. It's possibly user error. IMHO, it's a great device that will make you happy after you get it going.

The other thing I would add is that Youtube is your friend. There are dozens, if not hundreds of great video tips available. Give that a try before you frustrate yourself further.

Good luck!

I'm still a huge fan of the Aspire/Vape Only Nova BDC (Bottom Dual Coil.) I carry one on a Vision Spinner 1300mah durring the day so I don't risk my mods. They are available in Pyrex and absolutely rip when you have your voltage set properly. Aspire Vivi Nova S BDC shouldn't run you more than $13 for the nice Pyrex ones. Less if you get the non Nova models and they use the same coils.

Yeah, that was a pretty dramatic statement about switching back to analogs lol, but unfortunately I gave up on vaping for a little bit once already. Ive mainly been using the Kanger mini PT2 as I have 4 of them lol. They do all right but it just seems they dont satisfy me anymore, and I thought the Nautilus would be a huge upgrade. Im not gonna give up on it, I probably will buy some replacement heads here soon and give it another go, I just hope its not money wasted. I've thought about getting into rebuildables because ive heard thats where its at, but dont feel like I'd have the time to fiddle with them, idk if theyd be any less of a hassle. I guess it could be worth a shot. Thanks for the feedback

Just got to keep fiddling! You can do it. Fiddle until you find something you like. I wouldn't look at it as 'money wasted' Look at it as the experience you gained while making the switch. People here could post for days about their set up. The only common factor is everyone is different. It will be trial and error but you will find what works for you.

As far as advice on cleaning, mykereid had it right. Check out You Tube, I have learned a lot from random people who are just willing to share what they have learned along the way. :)

Good Luck,

My wife and I both have the Nautilus and Love it, Only downside is the coils dont seem to last all that long, and the burnt taste we have encountered is our way to know that the coil needs changed, but all the juices we have used thru it has great taste, I have wrote Aspire about the coil issue we are having along with everyone else, just waiting to hear a reply (If any).Dont give up and VAPE ON!!!!:vapor:

Similar issues with the coils, have purchased 10 more and so far every one worked. I plan on attempting to rebuild these when i have used them. There are a couple of youtube vids that walk you through this, see below. One thing I picked up from watching the vids is that even with a new purchased coil, it is a good idea to drip a few drops of juice on the coil before firing it the first time. This keeps the burnt taste from starting when the coil has not fully wicked juice from the tank. Again watch the vid to see them doing just that with a rebuild.

That said there are a lot of tank options out there that work great without the problems the Nautilus is having. One of the simplest and always worked for me is the Kanger Pro Tank 2 Mini, Ego threaded so you would need an adapter if your mod only supports 510 threading. Good luck, and hang in there!!!

I didn't have allot of luck with my aspire bdc heads. Out of 7 heads I had 2 tasted like burnt rubber mixed with fuel oil 2 just didn't work and 3 were just great. When they are of good quality they hit awesome but at under 50% success rate I put them in my long term steep box and will await better heads. I may rebuild them later, just struggle to put down my kayfuns at this point.

What are the coils rated at? If I run 1.8's at 3.4, I get a burned taste. If I use 2.1's or 2.2's (I can't remember off the top of my head what they take) then they work great @ just under 4. Just my .02

I have 2 of Nautilus tanks both with 1.8ohm coils. One is on a Hammer mechanical mod and runs at the battery voltage. Full charge @4.2V and I usually stop when the battery is down to 3.5V to 3.6V. Using Backwoods Brew Malty Toffee and no burnt taste at all. The other is on a VW mod and I usually vape this one at 8Watts. That corresponds to a voltage of 3.79V ( [8*1.8]^0.5), so pretty much mid-range of where I vape the Hammer. Also no burnt taste.

Got no idea of why you are experiencing burnt taste at those low voltages. Other than you are having a wicking issue and the coils are running dry........

Same here, WhazatU -- I have two Aspire Nautilus and they've both been flawless.

It's interesting how we all have so different experiences with the different brands. I have a Protank 2 and hated it until I bought the Aerotank base to correct some of the problems. Kanger is on my s**t list for releasing a product that requires you buy another product to make it work.

I've not had the dreaded "burnt" taste that others have mentioned. I've also never pre-soaked the coils with juice, but it makes a lot of sense. I'll be sure to do it in the future.

ECF and all the suggestions I've picked up on ROCK!

I have 2 Nautilus tanks here, and both have worked very well. I do not presoak the coils as others have mentioned, but anytime I change the head, or refill the tank, I set the airflow to the smallest hole and take 4-5 priming puffs before attaching it to the battery. If its a new head, I normally set it aside for 2-3 minutes after the priming puffs. I haven't experienced any burnt tastes with mine. I run my 1.6 ohm heads at 3.8/4.0 volts and my 1.8 ohm heads at 4.0/4.2 volts. Are you matching your airflow with the eliquid type in the tank? I find that if I am using 80%pg/20%vg that the largest airflow hole works well. If I am using a 50/50 liquid I use the next size down, and for 20/80 or 100% vg liquids I have to go down to one of the smallest holes in order for it to keep up with my vaping.

It's the stock heads, they're total shyte! No idea how a company can let such a great product that is packaged so well ship with such a terribly faulty critical part.

Don't use either of the stock heads that came with it, use any other replacement head even if you ordered them at the same time and it will be an amazing difference. I had the same problem and was really upset, then I changed the head and wow...night and day. They really are great tanks.

Fox, its awesome that you are vaping. Dont give up man. Could it be too much sweetener in juice?I have purchased several aspire products, and most I have given to friends over time. It wasn't a device for me but I found my preferred vape in a kayfun with a larger air hole. I agree with post earlier try another device like the new kanger or the x.1. I also liked the aqua and the gamma v2.
