If the wicking and juice viscosity is fine...

What AWG wire are you using ?
i.e., Kanthal A1 which gauge wire 22 or 24 or 26 or 28 or 30 or 32 ?

I am assuming since you stated that
5 wraps, 0.28 ohms @ 35 W it is a 22 gauge Kanthal A1 and the heat flux for that
could result in burnt wick if its a long puff / drag / toke.

You have to look at the heat flux i.e., how much power you are sending to the coil & wick with 35 Watts of power which may result in burnt/saturated wick.

Take a look at steam engine coil wrapping section and heat flux at specific watts,
see if you can turn down the watts to 25 Watts and see if the wick can catch up with juice
in between vapes.

For me i wrap more to get more surface area plus sub ohm doesnt mean i will get good vape... (for me at least).. i reckon to wrap at least 6 or 7 wraps.. and do scottish wicking and not too thick wicking... and try to wick it as not to block the juice channel.. 2 cents

do post wire gauge, id of the wrap and wire type for better understanding of the issue

you can get .28 ohm's on 5 wraps with 26 awg , if it is twisted or parallel wire
and @ 35 watts the Heat Flux for that would be 277 (hotter side)

you need to either turn down the watts or
try to do a proper wicking for the wick to catch up with juice between vapes

elsewhere
v2, where the holes is already there, 50/50 vg/pg!

I do a 1.1 ohm 28 ga 2.4 mm spaced coil at 20 watts and can time out my VTC Mini and never a dry hit. 50/50 juice.
V2 RBA deck here too.
I pull my wicks up the top of the deck sleeve and cut off about 3-4 mm above the top of the sleeve. Then tuck back down in to the bottom covering the wicking holes.
I use Sally Salon Coil cotton which looks a lot like cotton bacon when cut into lengths I work with. Roll it a bit twist one end and pull thru. Not tight just a tiny bit snug.

20 watts is as hot as I like to go so far. A nice tasty just warm vape is what I like.

i use the small blue screwdriver which i forgot what the diameter is! Kanthal A1 Parallel Coil, 26g
