Unscrew the battery from the clearo, and use a tissue or q-tip to wipe out any excess that is sitting in the battery well.

Second, take a tissue and place it over the bottom of the clearo then blow hard through the mouthpiece, till you stop hearing gurgling and nothing is going onto the tissue.

Those two things should clear the inner tube of the clearo and make your battery contact better.

Those puppies can be fussy, as you noticed. I only fill mine up to the bottom of the silicone cup, just below the top of the wicks. If it's leaking from the bottom I roll up thin piece of paper towel and slide it up the air flow tube from the connection end, and, as Hulamoon said, wipe off the battery with a q-tip. If it's way too full you can syringe some of the liquid out or if you don't have a syringe, just pour a bit out - you can try to pour it back into the bottle, but if you miss, you've really only lost a small amount of juice.
