I have a problem with my Itaste MVP V2. It is VV/VW, but seems to like to set itself to 5 Volts by itself very frequently, which in turn burns my atomizers after a single inhale. I bought it in at a shop in Florida, and my friend also has one that he bought at a shop in Oklahoma (but he lives near me now). Both of ours have the same problem. There seems to be 2 different times that it does this, and only one of them I can recreate repeatedly.

1) Set the MVP to any voltage ( I usually use 3.3 or 3.4 )
2) Press and hold the P button to show the puff counter, then press and hold it again to show the wattage
3) Check the voltage with a multimeter, and it will show you that it has set itself to 5 volts no matter what it was previously at
4) To set it back, press and hold the U button to show the puff counter, and press and hold it again to show the volts
5) Check it with the multimeter again and it will be back to the proper voltage

This happens with both mine and my friends MVP V2

It will also set itself to 5 volts if you haven't taken a puff in a while, and sometimes will set itself to it between puffs. This is disastrous as it will destroy the atomizer of a tank like the KangerTech T3S in one puff, and it gets expensive having to replace them all the time.

Because of this I have bought a simple non variable voltage Ego clone, which sucks because I can't use it while it charges.

Has anyone else had this problem? And is there any way to fix it? Thanks

One more question:
If you press both the P and U button at the same time it will show the resistance of the tank e.g, "A 1.9" and then it will say something like "U 3.8". What does the second display mean, the "U 3.8"?

P (the top button) is the variable wattage mode. U (the bottom button) is the variable voltage mode. I may have those backwards so go by what is in parenthesis for the correct button for VV and VW (have had a few mixed drinks tonight [emoji6]).

When you use VV you manually set the voltage. When you use VW you set the wattage you are going for and it reads the resistance of the coil and sets what voltage to put to it. You can either run in VV or VW, not both. If you hold the button down, it will show the puffs and then show what either the voltage or wattage is set to, no extra button presses needed.

VW is considered "set and forget" because if you have two tanks with coils of different resistance, it will put the same amount of watts to either tank, since it reads the resistance and adjusts the voltage accordingly. If you use VV, you would have to manually adjust the volts to produce the same amount of watts/same performance.

As to the part about it randomly setting to 5 volts and burning out your coils, have never had that happen with my MVP. Could it be that you are switching over to watts by accident?

Also, pressing the P and U button simultaniously will show you the resistance of the coil and then the battery level of the unit. It is measured in volts and ranges from 4.2 down to 3.3 volts. The green LED on the fire button means 4.2-3.8 volts, red is 3.7-3.4 volts and red means 3.4 to dead volts. I may be slightly off on those numbers, going off of memory. If you want to know exact numbers, it is listed in the manual, or ask on here and I can look it up.

To solve your problem, I would run in variable wattage mode, that is what I prefer. I run standard tanks around 6.5 to 7.5 watts, and my nautilus clone from 8 to 9 watts. I always recommend starting on the lower end of the spectrum and work your way up until you find your personal sweet spot, and if it ever starts to taste burnt, dial it down a notch or two.

Also, what resistance are the coils that you use?

My coil is 1.9 ohms. I didn't know that VV/VW were independent. A simple test with a multimeter shows that any wattage 6.0 to 11.0 sets the voltage to 5.00, but I guess that's because there's no tank attached when checking with the meter, so no resistance is there to change.

Also on the atomizers that it has burned, you can see that the tips of the cotton are black, which they aren't on new ones.

When I have changed the settings on these batteries before, i've always set the wattage first and then the volts so I guess that i've never benefited from actually using the VW feature. I just took a few puffs from my KangerTech at 3.3v and it tasted a little burnt, so I changed over to VW at 6.0 and it tastes fine. I think you just saved me several atomizers. Thanks!

Now that I think about it, being able to set the voltage and wattage at the same time doesn't really make sense.

The tank the MVP came with has been used with a really strong flavor, so even though I love the tank I can't just put another flavor in it. Would soaking it in vinegar ruin it? It's an iClear 30
