I just made a 5v mod with 2 CR2 1000mah batteries and a 4 pin 5 volt resistor. I wired everything correctly and the mod works fine, tested with a voltmeter. Its pushing exactly 4.99v when i hit the button.

But as soon as I connect my carto and push the button, the volts drop to 0.45v?? Im using a 1.7 ohm dual coil carto. Why are the volts dropping and nothing is happening??

LC CR2/15266/15270 Li-Ion Battery, 3 Volts, 800 mAH

Those are the batteries I have. I think the protection is getting triggered

This could be happening. 5V with 1.7 ohm will be drawing 2.9A and generating 14.7watts. That is a rather hot vape if it worked. You don't really want to use LR with high voltage.

ETA: Dang, must have the "Friday Mind Fog"

You're using DC, this should work at 5V. I haven't used the DCs yet; but others have reported using them with HV. Pic / schematic may help.

Is your DC carto 1.7ohm or 1.5ohm? I won't claim to know all vendors products, but I
haven't seen DC's at 1.7ohm. If it is 1.5 ohm, you'll be over 3 amps.

Is your regulator rated for over 3 amp?

edit - Is this the Madvapes 5V kit? Someone else had posted the same thing in
battery mods thread, and the regulator for that kit is only 3 amps.

don't use a dual coil carto with 5V
The voltage dropped because it is under load with the carto on it.

I'm not a modder............I just watch my husband............so maybe i'm not that good at giving advice.
I sincerely hope you get things worked out & your first homeade mod working just how you want it to soon :)
Kudos!

and a 4 pin 5 volt resistor.

Do you mean 4pin 5 volt regulator? Are they the Madvapes? they have two. One is rated at 2 amps and the other at 3 amps.
They have short circuit protection. Perhaps the regulator is cutting off. I would not use a 1.7 with 5v. Try coming down w/ your voltage.

First you need to use a pair of 3.7V cells when firing a regulator. Second those MV regs (I assume that's what you have) will often struggle with standard Joye 510s.

If you do the math with a 1.7Ω carto you are asking it to provide over 2.9A, ain't gonna happen, especially if you have not installed a heat sink as the datasheet clearly points out the need for.
