coilCord.jpgCBmicrophone.jpgHi fellow Modders,

I am trying to use a white telephone coil cord to go between my cb microphone mod and a battery power pack with a usb connection.

The wires all measure 4 and one half volts and all have the correct continuity and switch works correctly.

BUT the coil wil not fire.

If I connect the power directly to center pin and outside casing of clearomizer the thing seems to fire fine.

can't find a voltage drop in the system--everything seems to test out fine.

STUMPED here trying 2 get this thing to work.

There are 4 wires in that phone cord right? Have you already tried to send voltage down two and ground back through two? like twist red and white together and black and green together on both ends and make R&W your + and B&G your ground and give that a shot...

I mean its still far from ideal since they use itty bitty wires in phone cords, but it will cut the resistance in half which is a good thing and give you a better shot at success.

I bet your CB mic cabled use much heavier wires inside too since CB gear isn't as mass produced and they tend to see quality as a higher priority than the typical corded phone manufacturer does -- might be worth a look... :) cool idea by the way

You have something hooked in wrong they would heat up and melt if they could not handle the current.

Theres something else amiss, the phone wires should be able to handle a 2.4-3 ohm atty.

Theres no such thing as they wont carry the load because the gauge is too small, it will carry it and short by melting the insulation and melting the wire....

If your getting 4.2v at the 510 without an atmizer check if your atomizer is making proper contact..

try putting a 1k wire wound resistor in between your battery + and the 510 + and let me know how it vapes after that ;) its the same basic idea -- in AC its called impedence -- in DC its just called resistance... (PWM can fall in to either of these -- but straight battery feed is just plain old DC.

good point about the short likelyhood though -- he would be wise to install a fuse on the battery side because that is a serious problem if it shorts in the that phone wire since they are coming right off the batteries. there would be no way to stop the short...

Sorry, visius, that's just not the case.

A wire will heat up when passing high currents because of its resistance. But if the resistance of the small wires is large enough, the heat produced (with a low-voltage supply, such as 3.7V) won't be enough to melt anything. And the current that flows won't be sufficient to heat up the coil, either.

Yes, if you were forcing 3 amps through the wire, you would probably melt it, but it would take a lot higher voltage to do that.

You need thicker wire like speaker wire, or cut the power cord from some old item that no longer works.

PiggyBack.jpgMagnets.jpgSteelWasherBatteryHolster.jpgCustomUSBconnector.jpg510homemadeconnector.jpg

Hi Fellow Modders-----I bought 2 feet of white extension cord wire from a spool at my local hardware store and ran this up the center of my white coil telephone cord and it

works great now. I could not get the telephone cord to carry the current under load-------thought about trying to use both red and back to carry positive current and using

green and white to carry the ground but went ahead with my plans for the hidden extensions cord wire.

I am planning on trying this test at another date with the telephone cord. CB shop at truckstop had 50 cb microphones junked and gave me 3 of them to

play with. I have 4 of them now. 2 microphones used as mods and 2 more mics in my parts collection.

I made this 510 connector and it works fine----I have a small nut glued to back of clear plastic and plastic is then glued to bottom of clearomizer

base------I then turn the small machine screw clockwise and it screwes itself up tite against the center pin of the bottom of coil--plastic seems to give a tiny bit

and acts like a spring loaded 510 connector

I glued a steel washer to the window of the battery holster and on the back of the microphone in the center I have glued 4 disk batterys into the

hole-----I wanted to include the original steel connector that connects to the radio to cover the splice between the extension cord and USB--

cord I used epoxy glue to fill connector after wires were soldierd.

I clip the 2.0 amp 7800 mahs battery pack to my belt and microphone sticks via magnets to front of holster and seems to work good

Oh by the way -----"A Big Thanks"----- for all the Tips and ideas and replies you people posted---Great ideas coming from you folks for my future projects---thetrucker

yeah a wrapped kanthal/nichrome resistor works a lil different than all copper conductors.
Vape armegeedon crack open a ~10 watt resistor for the kanthal wire lol or use a soldering/curling iron wire element..

The wire inside an ego battery is 32 gauge, telephone wire is usually at least 30 gauge in the good cords..

IM a lineman by trade back in day in our telephone gang we used to hit circuits with a send/return feed 300vdc to or fry wherever the short was, made easy work of finding the short sometimes 1/2 mile away //
They can handle huge loads except for where the short is, makes a firecracker sound when they blow.. So yeah maybe 3.7vdc had issues lol but with a liion batt it should have no issue pushing current thru but *.....

Ma bell did the same 300vdc test circuit for a return feed low amps tho enough to kill ya tho...
I am still weary wiring up home phones even tho all digital now lol...

lol

*Then again todays telephone spring cord is probably not even ~38ga wrapped around cellulose fiber and those need soldering or digital gold plated clips.. He had a cold join IMO as soon as he asked for more power the join went cold with huge resistance there..

Meh he got it working success lol
