Hi all. I am trying to re-coil my vivi nova. I bought some A-1 32 awg Kanthal wire, and some 3mm silica wick. I made a very good looking coil, and it came out at 2.0 ohms. It works good, but there is a strange taste to the vapor, that makes me cough. It is weired to me. Before wrapping the wire around the wick, I gave it 3 passes of lighter fire, glowing it to white hot, to get rid of any oil or dirt on the wire. The only thing that keeps my mind busy is that I have not boiled the wick, and the wicks have a strange smell. Do I need to boil the wicks before starting to make a new coil? Is there anything that I might be missing??? Any ideas or secrets???

Torch your silica as well as your wire... easiest way is do do them both at the same time after you've wrapped your coil although some feel the wire holds it's coil shape better if you torch it first.

With cotton, yarn, gauze, candle wick, etc., boil it first to eliminate foreign tastes.

I'm sorry Gioajack, but I don't exactly get what you mean by torching the wick and coil. Can you please give me more detail?
