I posted this over in the battery issues forum but got no response so I thought I would try it here....

I'm having trouble with my 18350 batteries in that I can't get them to work on my Little Chucks. I have 6 of them....2 have been used for about 3-4 months, 4 are new. All of a sudden none of them will work in either of the chucks. The 16340s that I have are working fine. All of the batteries are reading 3.9 to 4.1 with a multimeter.

The older batts will give one little pssfftt sound before cutting off and the new ones won't even make a sound. I'm using a new Ultrafire WF 188 and thought that something might be wrong with the charger even though it seems to be charging the 16340s just fine. I had just retired a TR-001 because it seemed to be overheating and ruined 4 new IMR 16340s.....but that's another story. Anyway, now I don't think that it is the new charger because the last 2 batteries that I tried were new and had never been on the charger.

How could both of the Chucks work on a 16340 but not on a 18350 and why won't the 18350s work?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Amy.......I'm using the blue ones from MadVapes and I checked them with a multimeter and they are all reading 3.9 to 4.1. I just can't figure out what is going on. They won't work on either of the Little Chucks and I don't have anything else to check them on. I find it unlikely that my 2 older batts and the 2 sets of new batts would all be bad at the same time!

Just for the heck of it, check the sides around the bottom of the batteries. Not sure on the chuck but on some metal tube mods, they may be a little bit tight and the plastic tubing gets rubbed off the side of the batteries.. When you put them into a tube and the plastic is rubbed off they actually short out against the side and the protection circuit kicks in..

A shot in the dark maybe but it only needs a little tiny spot for it to happen..

hoogie, I don't know if that helps the OP but it certainly explained why I had a set blow out on me.

I have a few batts where the plastic is starting to wear off on the bottom ends (right at the base before it folds in) can I just wrap the bottoms where the plastic is starting to wear with some electric tape or should I toss them?

Thanks for your input, hoog. Sorry to take so long to get back to the thread. The batteries are new and do not have have any exposed areas on them. I just opened a new set of 16340's this morning and they aren't working either. I quess all of the batteries that I ordered must be bad.......4 18350's and 4 16340's. My old 16340's are still working, though not very well. Do you want me to contact you through your website?

Amy, I've not had that problem. Which Chuck are you using that rubs the battery? I'll be interested to hear what the solution is in case I ever have that same problem. The batts that I'm having a problem with are all brand new. Strange that both sizes of the new ones aren't working.

Book, this is only happening with my older batts, they are a year old and just getting worn out I guess. The orange ones-I think they are the 16340's I have for the little chuck seem to really wear out fast and my 3V life po's for my big chucks that I stack have the plastic cracked at the bottom, they get a ton of use and I see that the plastic actually holds the bottom something or other together. The batts still work fine though I notice a bit of a drop off at the end of the day. I hate to just toss them but reading that makes me wonder if I should still use them.
I have a couple sets in a shopping cart, I am gonna put the old ones away till I find out if the tape thing would be safe.

I ordered some 18350's from Mad vapes. I use the ultrafire 1200mAh ones. I have four and have had no problems. I do wish they made the blue wrapping a bit toughter!

book, we have such a low failure rate on ultrafire and trustfire batts that having 4 out of 4 bad about as likely as hitting the lottery :) but anything can happen. do you have a dvm to test the volts? If there's a problem with them just log a ticket and we'll get you fixed up.

The rubbing part can happen with any metal tube mod and yes, if you can get a good slim piece of tape on there and it fits the tube you should be good to go but just keep an eye on it so it doesn't happen again..

hoog, I've got 8 new batteries! I've tried 3 of the 18350s and 2 of the 16340s all with the same results......not working, but the old 16340s are. All my batteries are from you. I've been using your batteries for awhile, now. I've logged a ticket for you.

I don't know what a dvm is so I must not have one! :) I do have a multimeter and the batteries are checking out at 4.0 to 4.05. Could this have something to do with the protection circuits being bad?

Amy, could there be a burr inside the Chuck?......I've never even had my batteries look worn when they finally quit!
