Problems with dry burn on an EVOD

What am I doing wrong? Every time I try and dry burn I ruin the wick. It tastes like burned cigarette .....

I watched a video on it (two actually) and I think I am doing it correctly in theory but it doesn't work out for me. I remove the flavor wicks and do short bursts until the coils burn red. When I put it back together I prime the wicks, refill the tank, and let the wicks sit for at least 10 minutes before attempting to vape it.

Help!?!

Here's what I've done with the stock silica-wicked Evod/Protank coils. First,I got myself some 1mm silica wick. I then boil some water, and pour it into a small Pyrex dish. Take off the chimney and discard the flavor wicks. (No matter how gentle I tried to be cleaning the flavor wicks, they always seemed to disintegrate.) I then swished the coil and main wick in the hot water for a minute or two, then lightly pat with a paper towel (not to dry completely, but to remove most of the moisture). Dry burn ~ 3.7 volts until coils glow evenly, and wick turns light grey/white. Swish again in hot water to remove ash, pat with paper towel, and dry burn again until no smoke came off the wick. Replace the flavor wick with i strand of the 1mm silica (I use 100% VG juice), replace chimney, and put the head back into rotation.

This method works well for me, and I have some stock coils with wick that are 4 months old and still running strong. They have maybe been cleaned 15-20 times using this method.

BTW, the reason I don't use alcohol, the preferred method of cleaning coils, is that I'm a recovering alcoholic (18 yrs sober!) and I just don't want to have any in the house.

Greetings; I've avoided getting alcohol for coil cleaning for the same reason. I've got close to 8 years of recovery in AA and CA (though I don't pay much attention to length of time; day by day, right?)

Anyhow, +1 to you.
