I'm thinking of ordering a 510 prodigy, and still had a couple of ??'s about them.

I keep reading different opinions on dripping v carts. Do we have the option of doing either? Some say it melts the carts. I really don't want to have to drip - sometimes it's more convenient for me to fill a cart.

Another thing I wanted to know, I think I read somewhere that a prodigy brings out the flavor more than the 510 alone. Did I get this right? *crosses fingers that I did...that would be great* Throat hit and flavor would be the utopia of ecigs. :hubba:

I read in a different thread that the batteries are unprotected, but the charger is protected, so I'm assuming that accomplishes the same thing? If not, is it possible to swap unprotected for protected ones?

I hate it when I do this...still asking questions when I'm ready to jump in w/both feet. lol

Using filled carts with the Prodigy isn't such a good idea. You need to keep the atomizer really wet to avoid blowing it, and the only way to avoid blowing it is to drip. Of course this pertains only if you are going to vape at 5v or 6v, if you vape at 3.7v, then you can use carts.

I never did think that flavor with the 510 was awesome, and the prodigy doesn't change that. However, the 510 and the prodigy creates crazy vapor.

Well, I can say that with my 510 prod, that I have only had 2 days, has worked very well with or without the cart. I dont pull on it over and over in a short time, but I think it would take a lot of pulls in a row to melt a 510 cart. Throat hit is better dripping but I am enjoying it both ways. Money well spent as far as IM concerned. I use it mostly at home because of its size, and use my yeti 510 at work ect. Also, I feel it does bring out the flavor in a lot of the e juice I vape. Also, no problems with atomizers burning out as of yet, but like I said, I dont constantly non stop hit on it either. I highly advise using the tea bag mod in your cart, as they deliver the "FUEL" at a better rate than the polly fill. My 2 cents......Bill

I used a 510 (and loved it, except for battery life) before going to the Prodigy (with 510 attys), and found the Prodigy released a lot more flavor in most if not all the liquids I use. That made all the difference for me.

I generally don't drip with the Prodigy because the atty gets a little too warm for my comfort (I'm not gonna mess with sticking a hollow mouthpiece on after dripping). I always use carts, and top off frequently; you notice a decrease in flavor when it's running a little dry, though not really a drop in vapor production, the vapor's always insane. Once in awhile I notice some slight warping along the straight edges of the carts that fit inside the atty. It doesn't happen all the time though. Probably more likely if you're using brand-new batteries or vaping like a fiend (who, me?).

I love my Prodigy. It was great to be free of the constant hassle with batteries you get into with the 510 -- the RCR123As are cheaper and last longer per session, but if you buy a Prodigy, STOCK UP on those batteries because everyone seems to run out at the same time. I notice a drop-off in power within a couple of weeks of rotating 4 batteries/day, 2 at a time, and wind up rotating 3 pairs of batts during a day and counting the days 'til the next battery stash arrives. Still a whole lot better than a 510 battery that starts wimping out after a couple of hours.

Sorry, someone else will have to chime in on the protected/unprotected issue. I can tell you the Prodigy was a purchase I've never regretted.

I've been using my Prodigy 510 for a little over a month now with the same atty. I don't drip; I use filled carts. I do top off often, however.

Flavor is much improved over the 510 battery. Funny, though. Because I had no complaints about the flavor from a regular 510 until I tried the Prodigy.

Anyway, regarding the melting of carts:

I had two carts melt -- terrible plastic taste -- until I found this thread:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/30639-dont-melt-my-510-cart-tip.html

I changed the orientation of my carts as described in that thread and have not had a bit of melting or warping since.

If you wanna use your Prodigy at 5v with a 510 atty this cart mod may help:

PTB Plug Full 510 Cart

It will double the liquid your cart will hold and wicks very well. For me, at 3.7v it wicks too well - I soon get the dreaded gurgling atty which means I gotta blow it out before I've got juice in my mouth.

Might be just the thing to keep the atty wet at 5v though.

I'm using a modded version of this mod...hehe..and it works great at 3.7v.

btw, this is different from the original PTB plug mod.
