I've been vaping for about a week and a half now and can already see that I am going to love it. I'm already breathing better and feel better. Basically, I'm here to stay!! That said, I now need to find an awsome unit to vape with. I'm a serious quality & Gadget nut and want the coolest, best made unit on the market. I feel like I've looked at just about everything(probably not) and just came across the puresmoker Prodigy and Icon and I think I just fell in love. So before I busted out my credit card and hit the button I was hoping I could pick a few brains around here.

Questions:
1)Are these units as nice as they look and work as well as the reviews on the site say?

2)What are the differences between the Prodigy and the Icon?

3)Which attys are recommended to use with these?

4)If the prodigy is the one to get. Should I get the 6V or 3.7V?

I hope you have good things to say about it because the new versions look sweet. And I love the fact that they are made in USA!!:)

Thanks

1. Nicer. I've got the ICON. Its a great size and actually a pretty heavy unit. Very solid.

2. Size. The Prodigy is a larger unit and can use a larger 3.7v bat that will last longer or two 3v bats that will vape at 6v. I prefer 3.7 myself.

3. Whatever floats ya. I'd probably pick up a regular 510 and a low resistance 510 to try out.

4. Personally I'd get the 3.7. You can use the low resistance atomizers with it to simulate a higher voltage mod. I find 6v tends to burn some of the fluids I use. You can always get the batteries to vape at 6v later.

My opinions anyways. I do love this unit. Being all mechanical, there really isn't much to worry about.

I have no knowledge of these models, but being a quality and gadget guy myself, don't underestimate how easy it is to make these PV's. I have probably spent more in buying mod parts and making my own kits, but I have ten or more units that work perfect. I have a few that I want, but I have several Christmas gifts and loner kits as well.

I own 2 of the Protoge's, which predate the Icon, and they are exceptional PV's. The biggest difference between the two is the battery size. If you go with the Prodigy, I would go with 3.7V, as 6V proves to be a bit hot for most folks, including me.

BUT, with that being said, If I were just starting out, and thinking about sinking this kind of money into a PV, I would take note of two new units that are shipping in December, and both are variable voltage. I have BOTH on Pre-Order.

The new PV from NotCigs.com is the Infinity.. it's a variable voltage unit from the originator of VV. Estimated shipping date is by Christmas, and it should be under $100.00, landed.

Provape.com is introducing the ProVari... a microprocessor controlled unit that has individually stepped voltage with a host of other safety features as well. Pre-Order is going on now, and shipping Mid-December. The Pre-Order price of the ProVari is 149.00 and it will bounce to 179.00 once the pre-order has ended.

I love the all mechanical design of the PureSmoker products, but I honestly feel that VV is the new wave of Vaping, and the new units coming on the scene will be pretty darned amazing. Both companies have a solid reputation for quality and customer service, as does PureSmoker.

One thing I should mention though, with the exception of the switch, parts for my Protoge' units are no longer available, which means PS has no problem orphaning a PV when they move on. I don't know the histoy of the other two companies, but I'm not thrilled that I cannot buy new Atty heads for my PV that once boasted I could buy a number of different heads for a variety of ATTYs... Well, once the unit was discontinued, that has proven to be false, and a major dissapointment.

I forgot to ask which one you all recommend buying. I believe I would go with the 3.7 if i bought the Prodigy so why would I buy it over the 3.7V icon thats looks like the same thing only smaller.

Exactly why I went with the ICON. Its less conspicuous when you're out in public, but still has the battery power to last four or five hours. It really is a classy looking unit.

All you'll need is a $600+ metal lathe and a little fabricating skill.

Well, it is not completely necessary to build it from raw materials. That is a good way to go about it.

Edit: when I said these, I was refering to any PV. I personally get much more satisfaction out of building my own device. I don't have a lathe (have been thinking of getting one), but I have PV's for any situation that I can think of. There is no voltage or atty I can't try out to see if I like it. Haven't spent much more than what one of those models go for.

I've been keeping an eye out on craigslist for a lathe myself.

Bottom feed ali'i vari volt....err sorry that wasn't one of the choices was it?

I honestly think if I was going to get a metal tube mod it would be a chuck or a sabertouch
the chuck because it can be customized and everyone seems to like theirs
the saber touch because..to me anyway..it just looks stunning and it has a 5 year warranty
The Saber Touch and while it can't be customized to the same degree as a chuck it has a nice all metal look that for some reasons appeals to my aesthetic sensibilities. I also like the idea of a "button" that has no parts to break.

Between those two mentioned the prodigy does look pretty nice as well though.

The Prodigy V3.1 @ 3.7 w/ the 17670 protected batt will go a lonnng way before recharging, about 3-4X as long as the iCON batts.
SIZE is the difference... get both, either way they won't disappoint. YMMV.

Both of those are HUGE. I did like my saber touch, but the damned thing was massive. Also, its the button and wiring that you have to worry about breaking. The ICON and Prodigy have no electronics what so ever. You'd have to abuse the living hell out of one with power tools in order to break it.

Oh, don't be so sure of that! The mechanical switches can be very touchy and need frequent cleaning, I love the way my Protoge' vapes, but I would hardly call the mechanical switch trouble free. On the other hand, The mods I have that use low current tactile switches NEVER misfire.

Aside from changing out the screw from time to time, what really needs to be done? (serious question, not being sarcastic)

I'll stick my two cents in.

If you want a classy looking super small mod I have the Super T Manufacturing Precise 10440

Super T Manufacturing, Innovative manufacturer of electronic cigarette products.

While battery life isn't great. A couple of hours of moderate vaping. I like it for when going out and about. It's not much bigger than a pen and is very inconspicuous. For longer vaping I have Mako Midi and have on order a ProVari but I really like the size of the super T when out with friend and alike.
