i'm running ati mobility radeon x300 which is not really a card but a chip on the lap top board. i see no way to change settings .....

Yeah, I was just throwing ideas out there. My Radeon graphics came with software with many choices including the choice to " Use application settings". I have no idea how/if it would effect your issue.

If you have software that came with, it might be worth a look.
