I don't have a Prometheus, but I just got a Steam Turbine which is somewhat similar (both are dual-coil Genny atty's).....I have fooled around with several different setups. First I tried SS mesh with 30ga Kanthal wrapped around it (approx. 5 wraps per coil) which was OK. I then tried microcoils with cotton, but I could not get the cotton to wick properly, so I kept getting burnt hits...

What I have in there now is 2 microcoils (28ga Kanthal, 10 wraps per coil) with rolled-up SS mesh shoved down thru them....it seems to be vaping very nicely, so that's what I'll stick with....

I actually built a dual 28ga with cotton, seem to be working ok, I can dry the cotton if i take 4 good hits, but it seems to be wicking good. I have never tried SS mesh, what size?

Thanks

400 SS mesh
30 Kanthal

4 wraps on each gave me .54 ohms....

as someone first starting off... you should go higher on the ohms....

Not a Prometheus... but the idea is the same

I am using #400 SS mesh. I get it pre-oxidized from smokeanywhereforpennys.com..... Here is a pic of my setup....

It's probably not the optimal setup...I may be partially 'strangling' the mesh with the microcoils being so tight, but it vapes nice...

the sheet numbers have to do with how dense the mesh is (for lack of better words).

and this is mainly a trial and error thing, as what mesh you use becomes dependant on the viscosity of your juice.(To help wicking)

400 SS mesh is my happy medium.

500 SS mesh seems to be the favourite for higher PG juices
325 mesh was pupular for the high VG users.

learning to build a Geni setup is kind of painful. but once you get it right the rewards are worth it.

My advice.... find someone local that can build using SS mesh VERY WELL, and get them to teach you....
any other way, and you are in a world of hurt.... enjoy.

How would you get SS mesh through a 1/16 ID coil (the max ID of a micro)?

My Prometheus setup! I use stainless steel cable for the wick and put ekowool over the top as a sleeve. I do a 3/2 wrap at .3 ohms using 26g kanthal wire. I think the cable is 1/7" and the ekowool is hollow 3mm. Gives a great vape and flavor with outstanding longevity. Can clean it by running under water for convenience if you're too lazy to rewick. Not a fan of cotton as it has a very short lifespan and can't dry burn.

Edit: I should note that I only sleeve the portion of the cable that is wrapped w/kanthal wire. The ss cable is cut so it touches the bottom of the tank and ends about 3/4 to the top of the sleep just past the wire wrap. An added bonus is you never have to tilt your genny while vaping. The ss rope wicks that well. I also use a mechanical mod.

What ratio juice do you use?

Um, mostly whatever Suicide Bunny comes in (I think 80/20 or 90/10 vg/pg). That's generally all I vape anymore. Can't get enough of MM, SB, Madrina, and, of course, The O.B. :D I keep trying other companies but think they have a cheap taste to them (including all sites like jvapes, mbv, etc). I always seem to get a weird aftertaste with them. I don't get with Ruthless, Suicide Bunny, Darkest Day Vapors, Tombstone, and a few others (I think I've spent more in flavors this past 3 months than I have in hardware :/). Um, Darkest Day comes in 30/70 vg/pg, so I guess it doesn't make too much difference to me as long as the quality is there.

It's also a dual coil build, but can do as single. I should also mention that cleaning it with water is a quick fix and by no means a replacement to actually redoing the whole thing. Don't wanna confuse someone into thinking they never need to rewick the thing lol.

I will say the ss cable is the same since I first did the setup early January and I don't notice any real flavor drops. The only thing I have done in a rewick is change out the ekowool and the kanthal wire about once a month...but I chain vape a LOT so other users could surely get away with less. And by chain vaping, I mean I go thru anywhere between 4-8mm juice a day. I'd say an average is closer to 5.5mm or so. The ss cable will likely be replaced in the next month or so cuz it's losing its coil and starting to lose that twist and fall apart.

Note that with an ss cable wick, either burn the ss til it glows or slightly uncoil the rope and remove a really thin piece of cloth that goes thru the center of the cable.

How often do you guys go through mesh?

Once you get a proper coil on there, the mesh will last for quite some time... i have a genisis setup(iHybrid Pure) that has had the same wick and coil for about 2 months now... a dryburn every other tank, and she works like new.

I rebuild out of boredom...

Well, I used a 16ga Syringe needle to wrap the coil....which, I believe, is equal to 1/16" (please correct me if I am wrong, I could be!!). I then used a very thin piece of SS mesh, rolled it up, and shoved it down thru the coil. It was a tight fit, but it worked...for a while...

I have since scrapped that build for a more "traditional" setup....6 wraps (non-micro coil) of 28ga (EDIT: 30ga) Kanthal around SS mesh for a .7 Ohm Build....I think I was stifling the mesh with the other coils....

air needs a way in as juice feeds through those wicks...

the easiest way to do this is to just leave the hole open.
Some people use the rubber cap from needle tip bottles to cover that hole while in pocket....

if you wanna leave it plugged all the time, you need to roll hollow wicks.
(wrapping the mesh around a thin paperclip/pin makes this a very simple task)
Or a wick that is loose in the wick hole.
So that the air has a way to escape.
i prefer the paperclip method as i have found it is less likely to leak, and more predictable.

The RSST bellow was a VERY bag friendly setup....
left it in a drawer(on its side) for a couple of days, and the tank didn't leak... surprisingly
