Has anyone else experienced joint/muscle discomfort or pain after using e-liquid with propylene glycol... especially combined with exercise or vigorous activity?

I've personally found that since e-smoking my lungs don't seem to produce oxygen as well as I seem to run out of breath faster. Also, during exercise my muscles seem to get sore much quicker. I haven't noticed any extra joint or muscle pain aside from during exercise though.

I'm considering pursuing e-liquid made with glycerol instead if this could solve my problems. Hopefully the taste isn't too much different.

Please post your opinions of the above.

I used to work in an industrial environment where we used propylene glycol as a mold release agent on injection molders. I've breathed/drank/absorbed about as much of the stuff that a person possibly could and not for the worse. I was concerned when I found out on the job we were spraying a chemical into the air as a mist...so I did some research. Propylene glycol is, under prolonged exposure a nervous system irritant, but only at extremely high levels. From what I understand you would pretty much have to breathe nothing but pure glycol for several hours before it would cause any harm to you. It is a common food additive. Not sure though about the vapor form or what, if any, are the chemical changes that occur.

It's possible that it may just take some getting used to. It has been shown that propylene glycol is converted to lactic acid in the body, which explains the soreness. I can tolerate the soreness for now, but will be looking for alternatives.

I wonder what the benefits are of extra lactic acid production? *thinks*

Joint pain its so weird you just said that Ive been getting serious knee, shoulder and back pain this week and Ive gone cold turkey on the real smokes and been on the E cig hard all week ! I thought I must be coming down with something but don't feel Ill just joint discomfort ! also noticed what you did about shortness of breath (i would have thought giving up all those poisons from real smoke would have started making my lungs feel open instead of tight all the time but after the e cig for a week I feel no different if anything a bit shorter in breath !)

Couple of friends rekon its my whole system cleansing out because I have smoked a single real cigarrette for a whole week after 22 years of 20 a day !

They also tell me a lot of quitters fall Ill immiediately after giving up due to the body detoxing itself !

good knows if its true

think its time to do some research..

Its Odd, my joints and muscles ache after i work out too, hmmm :p

Its true, its just your body adjusting to the lack of all the garbage from the cigarettes.
you may cough up alot of garbage to, thinking your getting a chest cold, I am still doing that.
The effects shouldn't be much different then coming down off a redbull, then working out. You will feel the same way.

I'm starting to feel the join pain/muscle pain a bit less now... and I think my lungs are slowly getting back to normal... Makes me think that there's a "get-used-to-it" period for these e-cigs. I'd feel more confident in this assumption if more people could relate to what I've felt, but I'm not sure this happens to everyone.

As a note: I never really was a "smoker." I've smoked 4 or 5 cigarettes in my lifetime (all in the past few months), but I've been pursuing non-smoking forms of consumption. I've personally designed a few handheld tobacco vaporizers and really enjoyed them. My latest one was very satisfying... but, as with all of them, was difficult to use, required that I wasn't doing anything else (needed to be held in mouth and inhaled while holding a lighter with a very low flame at the other end), and with this it was very easy to get too hot and burn the tobacco. Also, it needed to be cleaned under water after each use. I don't think using the vaporizer harmed my lungs much, as it was nowhere near the same experience as smoking a cig. The effect was completely different as well. My e-cig gives me about the same sensation as my vape, but also very different from a real cig.

I really enjoy using my e-cig, but my health comes first... and I would be quite disappointed if it came to me quitting it altogether... but we'll see.

It's not that I feel sore after working out... it's that I quickly get sore during my workout. The soreness doesn't really increase or decrease after my workout. I think this is due to the increase in lactic acid. This also increases the ph of your blood making it harder for your blood to transport oxygen.
I need to do some research on naturally occurring lactic acid's role in the body.
