I received my first PT2 a couple of weeks ago and I loved every minute of it, that is, until the head started to act wonky after only 4-5 days. I switched to the other head after buying another bottle of my go-to juice, and it was great again! But another 4-5 days later the draw once again became funky. Basically, the draw is extremely tight and not as responsive. If I unscrew it a bit on my VTR the draw opens up again, but still doesn't perform that great. I rebuilt my first head the other day (which only came out to 1.8 ohms), but the taste was wretched. I stuck it out, but only a couple of days later the draw got funky again. I tried blowing out the base, the tank-tube, upping/lowering the voltage/wattage, and nothing seems to help. I'm using 32 gauge Kanthal and 3mm silica. I used the same wire/wick with my T3 builds and have never had these types of problems. Does anybody out there with more experience in PT rebuilds have any idea what's going on here? Thanks!

I had draw issues with Protank 3. There seems to be a flaw in the air flow. I put it on a Sigelei Zmax and since there is a gap between the body it works fine. I would suggest getting an adjustable air flow ring. This problem will be a thing of the past with all tanks once they all get flow controls. By the way are you using a VG base? The thicker juice may be part of the problem.

One update. Regarding the wretched chemical/burnt taste, I put two droppers worth of a thicker VG juice on my PT, and it immediately tasted awful. A Reddit thread recommended flipping the rubber grommet on the spike upside down so it wouldn't be contacting the wick. I tried that, and it helped instantly. It's a helpful tip for anybody experiencing the same problem. Of course, it didn't help my flooding/tight draw issue.

I agree with VapieDan regarding the airflow controller. I have a Protank Mini 2 & a Protank 3 (newest version - longer attie stem), I was ready to ditch them both until I got a Kanger airflow controller. The difference it makes is like night & day. Plus I no longer have to clean E-liquid off of my batteries. I'd go for the official one not a clone. The official one has a ridged control ring making it easier to use. I've seen a few people complain about the unbranded ones.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried dry burning? I noticed on my stock heads that after 4-5 days, my juice got really dark, and when i opened the coil, there was so much gunk on the coil it was a miracle any airflow got through. I just rebuilt a PT2 coil w/ 3mm silica... no flavor wicks, and while I notice a bit of a tighter draw, I also notice tons more vapor and throat hit, and zero dry hits.

I seem to be on a bad luck streak with dryburning. I used this video for reference the last few times. Sometimes the planets will all align and my dryburn operation comes out successful, but the rest of the 8/10 times... I'd elaborate but I just woke up and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

On a better note, that airflow controller works very well. It's a slight addition to what's already a top-heavy setup but that's a fair trade-off to any inconveniences I would've had otherwise.

Two things: Don't know what liquid you are using. Don't know what PV you are using.

Some flavors can kill a coil and wick in less than 48 hours. Generally the darker and sweeter the liquid is the fast it will gunk up a coil. The PG/VG ratio has little to do with it. Depending on the liquid 4 - 5 days use for a $1.50 coil is actually considered good.

If you are putting any liquid in a PT and it "immediately tastes awful" it sounds like you are running it at too high a voltage or wattage. No liquid tastes good if the coil is running so hot you are burning it.

One is Cinnamon Hearts, another is Spearmint. However I change flavours around on a bi-monthly basis. My PV (as of recently) is a Kanger Protank 2.

Bummer.

I actually prefer just buying new wicks, as the ones I do use get around 5-10 days of use as long they aren't duds.

I learned that lesson the hard way, so I only go up to 4.2 volts. The coils I use are 2.2Ω.

I use the ProTank II quite a bit... I'm sure that will change now that I have a Russian and a KFL ... but I can say that what most people here have said is correct when it comes to the life of the coil. If I vape a light to clear liquid... usually they last a bit longer... darker liquids generally I have to change the coil sooner. I'd say on average I get ~1 week per coil.

If you rebuild them watch when you dry burn if you do at all. The little rubber gasket at the bottom will burn.. it's rubber... and it tastes awful. The factory heads use non-conductive wire (you can see this if you look at a factory coil you pull out) so it doesn't burn the rubber. I just don't dry burn mine... but some people have suggested if you want to do that you will need or should make the legs of the coil longer and fold them up on themselves and then twist them a bit. Makes it so they don't get so hot and burn the rubber.

I have to say that I wish they lasted longer... but as others have mentioned $1.50/week for a new one ... or a few cents for a rebuilt one a week is not all that bad... considering I used to spend ~$5 a day for a pack of smokes... it's a win I think.

If you are getting a burnt taste... I'd say it's one of three things.

1) You voltage or wattage is too high (fix --> dial it back some)
2) You have reached the end of the coils life. Usually I change the coil when I get a slightly burnt or off taste or the vapor production has noticeably dropped.
3) You have dried out the wick from chain vaping. (Here you could try to remove one or more of the "flavor wicks" inside the head to increase wicking).

Hopefully something in there helps you.

On average I find a new head will only last me about two days or less before it tastes burnt or gets tight and produces less vapor. At that point I remove one flavor wick and I'm good for the rest of the week. I'm using primarily Tribeca or Torque56 so it's not because the juice is too thick or dark. I've pretty much given up on dry burning as I only get a day or maybe two of decent service afterwards. Not really worth the hassle.
