Protank II with SS wick

Just finished my first successful mesh wick rebuild for my Protank II. The head came out to be 1.8 ohms (booyah!), with 32g kanthal, 2 mm silica on top of the coil, and I oxidized the hell out of the wick. But the flavor seems to be extremely weak. Could the extreme oxidation have anything to do with the muted flavor? If so, is there a "break in" period that I have to go through to get to the full flavor of the juice?

I've also noticed that the juice has gotten darker since loading it up with the SS. I'm guessing this is because of the oxidation. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

I just got an rsst recently a d ya the juice changes color bc of the oxidized wick. I did not like the flavor at all. I watched a lot of vids and ended up only oxidizing where the coil sits and wrapped it in a 3mm strand of silica and i like the flavor better and no discolored juice. You can either torch the end of the wick or do what I think is called pulse oxidize. Basically dry burn the wick with quick fires from coil. I did the pulse method.

Could be the silica flavor wick turning out to be a de-flavoring wick. Have read that if you get it just right, there is no need for a flavor wick with SS mesh on a kranger build. Even on a genesis, there is a break in time where the flavor becomes more developed, but It's still outstanding from the get go. try a tight rolled wick, no hollow center, that fits snuggly into the coil head base, heard that was the ticket to ride, or, better yet, get a cheap $15 genesis clone to play with. The PT heads are just so restrictive and tiny, time to move on maybe? Hey, hey, hey, hey, time to look at an rba, YEAH!! lol. After all, as good as the pt is, it's only a beginners tank, It will never be a Maserati, a Porsche or even a Cadillac, a yack yack yack. lmao. Have fun!

I ended up doing silica or ecowool whatever I have because I rolled it so tight without it it would not wick. This cushioned me but I may try again next build with no silica or Eco. I've only had it a week so still working out the sweet spot but I definately will not oxidize the whole wick. That was a nasty flavor.

Thanks for the tip. I took the silica out and its vaping like a beast now. The throat hit is way better, and the flavor is a bit better too. It still has a funky metallic taste to it though. I wonder if it's because of the juice I'm vaping. It's a batch of orange cinnamon roll that I mixed up myself. It tastes great out of silica, but I wonder if the acidity of the flavors is bringing out more of the oxidation. Or I could be way off.
I've been thinking about getting a genesis to mess around with. I guess a clone would be a good way to go to start out with one.

I oxidized the entire wick. That may be where I went wrong.
