Hey there,

Maybe someone can help me out here.........

do the kangar coils for a protank mini II come with 30 or 32 gauge kanthal?

also, I see that they come with 2 x 1mm on top for flavor, but does anyone know if it's 1x 2mm inside the coil, or 1.5mm or...?

Just that I'm rebuilding with both 30 and 32 g, and I actually like the factory version.........
after a few days, I dry burn it, and replace the flavor wicks with a couple strands of boiled cotton yarn.....
(2 strands out of a 4 strand twist)

I'm happy with that.........

so can anybody help with the specs?

Thank you in advance,

g

Protank heads come with either 34 or 32 gauge kanthal depending on resistance. They use a 2mm silica wick for the coil and 2x1mm flavor wicks.

I use 32g to rebuild mine. I get 6 wraps over the 2mm silica and get about 2ohms.

thanks for the reply,

I suspect it probably is 32g because whenever I test any of their 1.8 ohms from factory,
it comes out to 2 ohms........

As per your recipe,
I just tried wrapping one on 2mm silica, freehand, with only a paperclip to support.......
sloppiest coil I've made in a month.......
funny thing is, it's also the closest I've gotten to what I want!

So much for a few dozen precision coils built with 30 and 32 g....... charts, tables......
and then I build a sloppy free hand one, and it's near perfect!

thank you for your comments,

g

I've probably rebuilt 100 heads in the last year and I still get a crappy looking coil every once in a while. Sometimes the kanthal doesn't cooperate. They don't have to look pretty to vape good.

I use a small needle to support the silica when I'm wrapping. I noticed using a thicker needle helps make sure my wraps aren't too tight. I get better flavor when the coil is a little loose around the silica. Just enough to allow the silica to move.

update: just found a rivet to wrap around.......... the result wasn't the best as far as performance, but it looked pretty good....

the rivet size happened to be larger than 1/16 but smaller than 5/64........... only significance to that I can twist 2mm silica through it pretty easily........

but, still at it....

good luck and thanks for the comments,

regards,

George
