After buying my screwdriver I found that the supplied 2 batteries and single charger were not enough to keep you going as I couldn`t carry one as a spare just in case other ran out (never happened yet), as while you were using one the other would nearly always be on charge! This is because of a 5-7 hour charge (Trog says they 95% charged after 5hrs but for green light 100% state, can and in my findings always is about 7hrs!)
I have ordered some cheap and cheerful ones from China but because of there new year celebrations decided to source some from UK. I had seen on another forum about protected batteries and how they to big to fit because of the protection module in the bottom of each battery. One user had reported using them though? After doing a bit of research and emailing a few suppliers Decided on the ones that were as close to the original ones were the AW RCR 123A batteries, so bought these and a 2 bay charger for £27.50 UK postage included.
The Photon Shop - LITHIUM RECHARGEABLE RCR123
They arrived next day after ordering, and was sent a confirmation email to say they had been posted So can recommend this Site if you decide to give them a go!. I Have tried them today at work and they lasted 10 hours (still going!) I didn`t intend running battery for this long just got stuck at work!
On the size front they are the same width as unprotected ones but are a little taller, less than 1mm (Taken photos to show!) They fit in SD fine but when you tighten thread can feel a little resistance on last half turn or so (against spring) but other than this fit and perform fine on initial testing + you have the added PCB built into each cell providing over charge protection - over discharge protection - short circuit and over current protection (in theory at least?) On first recharge went green in 2 and half hours. The difference is minimal and they fit fine! Others I looked at were a lot bigger so check before ordering!
Will update after lots of charge discharge use see if they still performing ok!
