I received the USB extension for my Protege last Monday or Tuesday.
It works great! Nice job Steve & Co.

It's very simple to use: you just unscrew your Protege's battery cap, take out the battery, and screw in the USB Extension.

Your Protege has now "transformed" from a 3.7 mobile vaping device into a 5000 jiggawatt, I mean, 5v passthrough!

The unit is basically a "dummy battery" (battery sized plastic/delrin tube with a postive connection at the top, and a negative connection on the side), and end cap, and usb cable.

The end cap serves only to keep the unit in place in the Protege.
If you have a Protege, I definitely recommend it.

I have moved my PS Passthrough to the car, and use the Protege/USB at the house.

Just a couple of things to note (These are not criticisms, the device works great)

There is a fairly stiff spring in between the "dummy battery" and the end cap, so it's a little snug getting the end cap screwed on at first, so don't force it and strip your your threads.

I actualy can't get the end cap on all the way, but it's in there tight enough not to come loose, and works great, so I'm not worried about it.
I may try to compress or cut down the spring a bit - but probably not, because it works great and I'm lazy.

Also, the cable fits tightly in the end cap, so just be carefull when screwing the end cap on, not to twist the cable too much. (I might suggest making the hole in the end cap a hair wider, but it's fine the way it is)

The "dummy battery" does appear to be very resistant to twisting, so if you twist it some, it shouldn't be a problem.

Just be patient when installing this the first few times and you should be golden.

Sorry I couldn't report on this earlier, been dealing with a sick parent in and out of hospital.

Happy to See you are liking it Mr_Slippery!

That end cap was really bugging to crap out of me, because of the tight squeeze. We made 1 small change to them -- we now use a rubber grommet, and it just *plugs* in. You push it in - No twist :)

So much for being an early adopter:mad:

Just kidding! I'm really digging it.

Hmmmm....i really liked the idea of the metal end cap with a hole for the cord. I have one of these USB extensions on order right now,and Im not very happy to hear of any sudden changes to the design. I am not going to get what I originally ordered am I? you DO realize that if the end cap just *plugs in* it can be just as easily be *pulled out* or even *fall out* once it gets a bit of wear on it. I am NOT digging this idea Steve.

Timmay ...

Trust me on the tight fit bud ... Screwing a pressure fit (atleast as tight as it was originally) on there, would harm the threads pretty quickly if not done correctly. T

The rubber grommet holding it really fits in there nice and snug and won't move. Can it be pulled out? Sure, but, I would rather see a grommet pulled than the cord being released and you now have a dead USB Ext on your hands! Sorry to disappoint bud - especially if you were hoping for a screw on! No hard feeling if you want a refund. :)

Ya I want that thing. That's even better that it plugs in instead of threads on. Maybe I'll buy it early next year. Plus an 808 adapter. Plus a mechanical switch. Damn, all I will be keeping is the tube..

I also want the actual button replaced with a replica made of safety orange plastic. I guess for when I'm intoxicated. I really don't know why.

If I had a wedding I would register at PS. lol.

Hey Valhalla - Yes ... The rubber grommet needs to be completely within the protege tube.

Easiest way to make sure you have contact. Slide the grommet about 2 inches down -- insert the delrin into the tube until it stops. While holding it in place, slide the delrin all the way in. Use a screwdriver to help nudge it in if need be!

That's the right attitude fawn.

I had it back in June and haven't smoked one since thanks to PS.

You'll be amazed at how easy it is with the right equipment.

.

Brock I agree 100% ... I started with PS and I'm still with PS a year later ..... If I had to go through some of the stuff I've been reading on the main forum .. I would of never made it ... not a doubt in my mind. It was, and still is, my opinion that vaping, like smoking, should be easy .... all I needed to smoke was a pack of cigs and a lighter (lol or heat source, been known to use the kitchen stove now and then 8-o) and I was gtg .... if i had to jump through too many hoops to vape .... it would never of worked for me ....

i second that second.. Even once i switched to 510's from the blu cig, i was still sneaking cigarettes from time to time. Since i got my protege, i can't even fathom going back.. My roommate comes in reeking of cigarettes and freezing cold... as i sit snug and warm happily vaping on my protege extension.. After two packs (give or take) since 01, i've been tobacco free since early november... Can't wait to order my prodigy!

i got tired of messing with the gromet and simple just hold it in place fires better, and no more issues with the cord pushing the negative up and making it shock me. plus i placed some tape on my tube to act as a filter to further prevent the shocks. i noticed a few things could improve the design one is using some kind of epoxy to hold the wires in place just out side of the derlin assembly and preventing them from shifting which is what my issues is. i also notice that the positive side has to much cable at the contact point and it is bunched up and some is exposed and can contact the negative providing me with me shock. i have since corrected these issues mostly myself

Can you post a picture showing how far up this grommet should be. Mine won't go up after it hits a certain point. Thanks

Change the SD battery or yank it off the wall !! LOL
I'm doing exactly what the picture shows and I get nothing. This seems to be dead or broken can't figure it out. Sent in a ticket. Got my new button for the mechanical is working like a champ but nothing with the usb extension? I have decided to return this because it also blew out my usb charger glad I have another and tested it again and still nothing.
