Let's have you give these suggestions a try.
1. Contact cleaning:
Take a q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol (99-92%) and wipe down the round piece of metal at the base of the circuit board for a good 20 seconds or so. It should be a shiny silver in color when it's clean. Make sure to clean the tops and bottoms of your
batteries as well.
Make sure your unit is dry before reinserting the
batteries.
It can also be that the spring in the end cap has become compressed. Pull up on the spring in the end cap to stretch it out a bit, maybe an eighth of an inch or more. Make sure and hold the bottom of the spring so it doesn't pop out of the end cap. They're a pain to get back in. This will help secure the battery into place and provide a more solid connection.
We also have a video showing how to clean the ProVari:

We recommend cleaning the contacts once a week as preventive maintenance.
If this contact cleaning didn't help, the next step is a full on bath.
2. Isoporopyl flush:
Sometimes juice or dirt can get into the unit and this can cause strange behavior.
Checkout this page which talks about how to clean the ProVari.

Try doing an Isopropyl flush using some 99% Isopropyl. If you cannot find 99% then it's ok to use 92%. It needs to be pure isopropyl alcohol with no additives. Remove the battery and pour in about a full shot glass amount 9one ounce) and swish it around for about 20 seconds then pour out. *This step may need to be repeated once or twice more.*
Leave it open and let it dry completely (it may take up to 24 hours or more for the lower percentage alcohol to dry off completely) before inserting the battery again. It might be a good idea to give the bath before retiring for the night so it has a chance to dry completely.
If this doesn't help we can arrange to have a look at it and see what's going on.
