The shopowner is either trying to push to to make a sale the wrong way or is not very knowledgeable. I use rebuildable atomizers exclusively. When I go out, I almost always use a tank system and it is screwed onto my Provari Mini. When I'm at home and I drip my sub-ohm builds, I use my mech mods.
Provari's, mech mods, DNA devices, and every other mod out there are tools. And like all tools, they each specialize in a specific task. Just like you ask yourself, if you had to screw down the positive post, would you reach for a screwdriver or try to twist it with tweezers? They'll both do the job. But one tool sure does it better.
A Provari excels when you build a higher resistance coil. I usually build my Provari toppers to about 1.5 - 2.0 ohms. Put those builds onto my mech mod and the mech mod sucks, because it's drawing a lower voltage/wattage than what my Provari can do for me. My mech mods excel in the lower resistance builds. Not only because the Provari can't fire a sub-ohm build, but even if it could, it wouldn't fire a very high voltage as I'd reach the 15 watt maximum really quickly.
So as an example, I build my Kayfun to a 1.6 ohm coil. On the Provari, I am running it at 4.5 volts. That gives me roughly 12.65 watts. It's a pretty sweet vape. If I run the same Kayfun on my mech mod, say even at max charge, 4.2 volts, that would only give me a 11 watt vape. And it only goes down from there.
Now my Magma is currently built to a 0.3 ohm dual coil. Even if the Provari could fire it (which i know it can't because of the safety features), the 15 watt maximum would be reached at less than 2.2 volts. Now that same Magma with that 3.7 volt mech mod gives me a whooping 45watt vape
