So my new provari just arrived, I whacked a fresh off the charger Panasoni NCR18650PF in there and added the extension cap. It won't turn on. Treat me like the kind of idiot who calls tech support without plugging the device in because I hope this is just me being an idiot and not me having a DOA provari.

I'm putting the positive button top into the device and the flat negative is where the end cap is.
As for turning it on, I've tried 11click, 10click, 5click, and 3click with long gaps, short gaps.

Don't worry about treating me like an idiot, it's what I need. I'd rather try all the idiot stuff and have a working provari than not try something and send it away.

From Provape, We recommend only using AW IMR high drain batteries in your ProVari a bit down this page

Battery Tip

Batteries - We only recommend using approved 18490 and 18650 batteries in the ProVari. All of the batteries that we sell on our website have been tested to work with the ProVari and these are the only cells you should use. There is a big difference between all the different batteries on the market and a lot of testing has been done on these various batteries. The reason we recommend using high drain cells is because these cells can output more current providing the ProVari with the power it needs to operate properly. There are a number of batteries that will cause issues including the Trustfire, Ultrafire and other brands. These batteries cannot handle higher current output and the battery will turn off while in use or cause a low battery alert much sooner than it should because the batteries have a high internal resistance. Please make sure you get the proper batteries to use in the ProVari to avoid problems.

(ProVari Variable Voltage Ecig: Best Variable Voltage E Cig Available!)

Only guessing here- but if the Pannys are different in length than the AW IMRs as recommended, that is probably the issue. I know they fit *very specific* batteries only.

Reposted form op other tread.
First take out the battery, Then put it back in and watch the button while you are putting on the end cap. It should flash to
show a connection is being made. With that battery the button top might not be tall enough.
Do you have any AW button top batteries to compare it to?

You are in a tough spot, I feel for you. Here is a pic of an EH cell that would not power up one of my ProVari's,

Center cell
by carefully removing the shrink wrap that covers the shoulder of the cell, contact with the center pin on the board is possible, and the battery works fine in my devices. It may, or may not help, in your case. If it does then at least you get to use your device while you source AW cells. Good luck!
