I'm waiting for my PT to be repaired (delivered with a bad switch) so I never had the pleasure of using it yet. But I've seen some posts about needing a beefy power supply to run it. It runs at 5 volts - which I can't wait to try! - but how much amperage is needed to power it effectively? I have a 120v ac to 5v USB supply that is rated at 1 amp. Is this enough to do the trick? I would asume that the car lighter jack in my car would be at least this, but I don't know for sure.

Any input/knowledge would be appreciated!

I would say that you need 2 amps. I have heard of people using 1amp fine, but then again, i have heard of people saying thats not enough. Just my take, i upped to a 2 amp 10 watt APC, and it works great!

+1 APC rocks - a lot less complaints than the Kensington (sp)

I see the ADC is a portable batt. I was talking about a plug in the wall to USB so I can have constant power. My iPod AC to USB is rated at 1 amp as well as a Belkin unit. I'm just not sure if there are units out there that are rated at higher amperage or whether I even need more than 1 amp. I thought someone mentioned 1.5 amps being ideal.

Steve or casey, care to weigh in? After all, it's your unit.

There is a link to a $1.95 ($3.90) shipped AC USB 2-port adaptor around here somewhere. I bought one but didn't save the link and it's worked very well for me. It's 1.5A x 5v (x2) and is a quality unit. Hopefully someone will chime in with the link (my confirmation e-mail said it's from TAS Electronics), but a search showed no results for the page I'm looking for.

If someone posts the link again, I'll be buying 3 more of these bad boys.

Edit: If you use one port, it's actually 2A x 5v.

Found the link for it here advertised at $9.95. Like I said, I bought it for much cheaper.

Here is the link:

USB Dual Power Adapter

Yeah, I found this bad boy right after I bought my USBPass 2 months ago, Its' a great deal and a great unit. I bought a few and they still work as well today as they did the day I received them. The sellers name at TAS is Steve. If you mention the E-cig forum when you order, he told me he would make sure he ships the order out as soon as possible.

Also, this topic has already been covered fairly thoroughly in this thread:

i have a question ,
Couldn't the PsPT be made with Built In bat ?

like how the reg 510 PT through work now

That way when U take a draw the Bat will provide the Amps and then the USB would Just keep it charged
Then your PT would only last as long as the battery. This one will last for ever!!!! Well thats a stretch, but quite a long time as long as you don't break it. as i did :-(

If you have a PS PT with a batt you basically have a Prodigy right? Aren't they identical units except the power source? (usb vs batt)
Negative, more similar to the protege. adapters on the protege and PT are one in the same. Prodigy uses a different adapter.

edit: Steve mentioned making a protege attachment so that you can use your protege as a PT.

This is just like effing transformers, i love it!!!

Markarich - Thanks for the link! I went ahead and ordered one. Thier site is weird, I wanted to get a bunch of em at that price, but you couldn't dial in a quantity. Oh well, I did mention E-Cig forum in the notes. We'll see how fast they get it here. Can't believe the price. Are these units reliable or made like crap?

Yeah, the site is a bit archaic and it's seems to be one unit attached to one shipping price. You can order over and over again(but you get charged the shipping each time). It's still comes out to only 3.90 per unit (which is still extremely cheap). And yes they are are really reliable. Believe me I was skeptical as well. You'll be suprised when you get the unit (how high quality it is and how well packaged). I've had mine units now for over 2 months and they are all working like the day I received them.

They sent me an e mail and said that I could buy any quantity I want by doing the whole transaction via PayPal (at least the FDA hasn't banned USB power supplies yet!)

Here's what they said:

You can order additional units by going to our PayPal web site at tas.electronics@hotmail.com and paying for them. Each additional unit ordered if ordered together is $1.95 each and $1.00 for shipping for each. So for each additional unit ordered it will be $2.95 in addition to the original one you have ordered. I will ship them all together.

I was also told by PureSmoker that a 1 amp sully is fine and will work well.

Oh, I was not aware of that. I just ordered mine one at a time. Well I guess you live and learn, thank you.
I've tried a couple of 1 Amp max adapters and they constantly tripped. The lowest amperage adapter that I've found to work consistently is my Kensington at 1.5Amp. Perhaps PS knows of a 1 amp adapter that works. As I said, I was not able to find one.

Are you using a 510 or 810? Not that it should matter. PS told me people around there use thier iPod charger plugs (rated at 1 amp) and they work fine. I guess I'll find out when my PT shows up (it was DOA with switch issues). I'll try the iPod unit until the one I ordered arrives. I'll let you all know.

I'm using a 510(the resistance is lower so it does draw more current) and I did try my neice's iPod wall charger(the one they sell at WalMart-it's like a small white box) and it did trip, although I have seen some people post that they do work(it very well maybe an atomizer resistance issue). Again, the only power supplies that have worked for me have been #1. my desktop USB 2.0 port(which I've subsequently read on wikipedia can provide unlimited current if there is no concurrent data transmission - but it really depends on the quality of your motherboard if you want to risk it) #2 the 2.0amp AC/USB adapter you have on order. #3 a car adapter USB port I ordered that is 850mA, it works because it is constant current(so therefore, doesn't trip if more current is called for) BUT it will ONLY provide 5V at 850mA so the experience is not nearly as intense. #4 My kensington Power Pack-which provides 5V USB at up to 1.5Amp.

I hope it all works out for you as the USBPass is a really good consistent 5V vape. If you do find a power supply that does work well and consistently, make sure you add it to the list on this thread.

Again, good luck.

Yeah it will work, i thought you were using a battery, wall plugs are better, i just feel like i am tied down when using a wall plug, both physically, and metaphorically, hahaha.
