Howdy folks. First, I wanted to say thanks for all the great information here. Second, I want to say that there is SO MUCH @#$%ING information!!1! I've been lurking all day trying to figure out how to start and the more I read the more confused I got. Urgh. I think I finally did right though.

I ended up ordering the Kanger EVOD Starter Kit from vape Dojo (best price I could find with a site that offered liquids and free shipping over $50). Got a smattering of liquids at 18mg -- regular tobacco, butterscotch, mint and green apple (what?!) because it sounds like I might not like the tobacco after I get going.

Been smoking for about 15 years. Was a Marlboro fan for a long, long time until I switched to American Spirits a few years ago. It was wacky, that switch. I went through some odd withdrawal for a week or two (I suppose that's all the junk Phillip Morris crams in there) before I adjusted and never looked back. Unfortunately (well, fortunately for her) my wife doesn't smoke so I figured it's time to get to the quitting. Problem is... I really enjoy smoking (and I'm hopelessly addicted).

Tried Blu (got it as a present) but hated it. Did NJoys for a bit; not bad. Bit expensive for so little output. Recently I bought this horrifying bad greensmartliving.com e-cig at the urging of the guy who runs the smoke shop I frequent (I'm really trying hard not to hold it against him). No matter what it was, I couldn't drop the regular smokes for any of these.

This is, I suppose, because -- as Whitey so eloquently put it -- those boards won't work on water unless you've got power.

I realize this might not be the oomphiest setup, but it's a step up and it's damn affordable. I figure I can upgrade piecemeal later. For now, I'm looking forward to checking the mail and letting you folks know how it goes once that package gets here.

Thanks again.

Actually compared to what many start out with, Kanger combo is a very nice way to get going.
Battery wise it is about the same as any fixed voltage Ego style, basic but dependable with decent battery life.
The Evod topper is a nice Match and beats the heck out of trying to figure out what you should be using.
Many kits offer far inferior toppers in order to maximize profit while keeping prices reasonable.
Evod tanks are probably the most popular in Kangers line right now with Protank being their Largest Glass tank and ProTank mini for basic battery fit.

Welcome to the asylum Zealot.

You did good getting the show on the road with a Kanger kit. You'll like it for a long time... and even later, when you get more advanced, it will make a good back-up, or a gift to a cig quitting friend. :)

That's a good starter kit!
The Evods and those EGO batteries should give you a LOT more flavor and vapor than you've gotten from disposables.
And it's all nearly "universal" stuff - you can get coils or more evods ANYWHERE.
And even if you move to some other kind of equipment (a big battery tube, or a ProTank for juice) - it's all compatible with your current stuff.

So - GOOD LUCK!
By the way - I quit smoking about a week or so after getting a decent starter kit - and I wasn't even TRYING to quit, just trying it out of curiosity. But after that week, a "real" cigarette tasted nasty compared to the juice.

So that's you're next adventure - trying to find juice you love...it may take a bunch of them to find what you like, so order small bottles or "samplers".

Welcome to ECF and congratulations on taking the plunge. I tried and failed once a while ago. Try to look at it as a warm-up exercise. I had a little trouble converting the second time too but hung in there. It's worth it! There are no rules to switching over so do what you need to do to make it work for you. And just wait until you get hooked on all the toys. :)

I started with a Provari. It worked well for me, but for the first few weeks or so I had no idea what I was doing. In retrospect, getting something like you got would have probably been a good idea. It's a good bit more foolproof. I've actually set up several friends with the setup you ordered, and they love it. Of course, considering how I spend money on this habit, I would have ended up with a Provari either way. But easing into it is nice. The Evod will give you enough flexibility to get into and enjoy the new obsession without the initial hit to your wallet.

The Evod is a truly great starter clearo and you got a good price. I recommend it to one and all, and I have given it to curious smokers. :2cool:

If you also want a glass tank to experiment with some of the "tank-cracker" flavors (such as cinnamon, citrus, wintergreen, or clove), you can add a Kanger Mini Protank. Works on the same batteries and atomizer heads as the Evod, so they're great side-by-side units. Here they are at a good price: Kanger Protank Mini @ VapingME.com

As I understand it, non-glass tanks will break down when exposed to certain liquids. Is this accurate? If so, how do you know what kinds? It is anything with citric acid?

Here's a bit of a guideline... at least, for MBV. You can infer from the list that juices containing citrus and cinnamon certainly... but others you wouldn't necessarily expect, like cola.

As others have said, the evod kit is a fine starting point. It is head and shoulders above the blu, Njoy, and other dinky ecigs but still easy to work with, and not overly large.

For many vapers this may be all they ever want/need, but even should you go on to something else, this remains a very usable vaping kit.

I have several more advanced mods now, but my eGo/evod ecig is still one that I travel with all the time.
